NV-DH1 VHS over Firewire?

I have a chance to get a Panasonic NV-DH1 DVHS player from a friend.
I do not really need it but I was wondering if it is possible to connect a DVHS player to a PC and record standard VHS tapes on a PC over firewire to the PC?

I assume the iLink transfers digital tapes no problem but will it work with standard VHS?
If so I can record a lot of old home movies.

I doubt it. The JVC DVHS machines will likely do what you want because they have an MPEG2 encoder in them. This is a thread with some info on the Panasonic machine. http://www.avsforum.com/t/91169/possible-replacement-for-pv-hd1000-available-in-japan/0_100
