Connecting Wharfedale Crystal 2.40 - Manual is wrong?

Hi, and thanks for any help you can give me in bi-wiring my Wharfedale Crystal 2.40 front loudspeakers to my receiver.

A manual for the speakers I found on the net suggests that I need to connect the wires from the receiver to the binding posts on the opposite ends of the speaker. (under Connecting Your Loudspeakers -Standard Connections)

But that would mean I am connecting the (+) end of the wire to the LF and the (-) end of the wire to the HF.

That doesnt seem right? Shouldn't I be connecting the wires to the (+) end of LF and (-) and of LF?

(Please see pic to see what I mean).

(1) Should I follow the manual and connect (+) and (-) ends of the wires to LF(+) and HF(-)?,

or

(2) do what looks right and connect the (+) and (-) ends of the wires to LF(+) and LF(-)?

Thank you

The two BLACK terminals should be connected to each other, and the two RED terminals need to connected to each other by wire jumpers.

Then connect your receiver output to either red and either black.

They normally come from the factory with metal jumper strips connecting them; yours seem to be missing, so just use a short piece of wire for each jumper.

hi commsysman, thanks for your reply.

I'm actually bi-wiring these speakers. How should I be connecting the wires to do that?

Oh; that's different then. wink.gif

Run a pair of speaker wires from a given receiver output to the HF red and black; and then run a second pair of wires from the same receiver output terminals to the LF red and black.

One thing that makes that easier is to terminate your wires to double-banana connectors at the amplifier end and just "stack" them. In other words plug the first one into the receiver jacks and then plug the second DB connector into the first one.

oh I see! so it will look like the option (2) on the original post, with wire going to both LFs and another wire going to both HFs.

That makes sense to me, idk why the manual says otherwise though!

I don't know what the manual says, but the BLACK receiver output terminal has to connect to the two BLACK terminals on the speaker, and the RED receiver output terminals must connect to the two red ones.

If ANY red connects to ANY black you have a short and can damage your amplifier.

Read post #4 very slowly and carefully...lol.

yup, all wires from the black terminals going in the receiver are going to black terminals on the speakers, and vice versa for the red terminals.

What's confusing is that instead of one wire going to HF(+) and HF(-), it could also go to HF(+) and LF(-), which is what the manual seems to be suggesting to do.

please see this gallery for photos of the two different configurations I uploaded.
