How do you deaden a cold air return?

AVS' search results have gotten worse since the new look and feel IMO, I can't find a thread on this.

I have a cold-air return in my "dining" room, which I converted into another entertainment area (HAHA). This will be my 2 channel music listening setup. The cold-air return in the room is really pretty loud. What can I do to quiet it down a little? Unfortunately the furnace is right below this room, so the cold air return is pretty powerful (audible), when it's on.

Take off the cover and line as much of the interior surfaces with a sound absorbing material, I would grab JM Linacoustic Duct Liner.

If the furnace below is connected to this return with Metal Ductwork, Stand near the furnace and place your hand on the duct work and see if there is vibration or if you can hear the metal transmit sound. If yes apply some Dynamat Extreme to the as much of the duct as possible (or as much as you can afford). Take off the furnace access panel and you should be able to see the inside of the return duct. Line that area with Linacoustic.

Lastly if possible put something in front of the return like a large potted plant.

Thanks a bunch. Is it possible I can find this stuff locally at Home Depot/etc?
I dynamatted my car trunk a long time ago when installing a subwoofer (helped a lot with minimizing rattles).

If I can find all this stuff locally I'll definitely take care of it this weekend. There is a furnace cold air return in the basement also, would be great to quiet it down since the theaters are next to it.

I read not to block the return really or it'll "suffocate" the furnace, but it probably means don't completely block it, a potted plant might work.

Linacoustic in the quantity you need (small) will be hard to come by. It ships in 100ft x 4ft rolls.

Here is a place that cuts rolls into smaller quantities then charges 2-3x more. But in the end may be the cheapest solution.
