Are you certain Chris said that? He was pretty clear over email with me that he agreed with that ~.84 or so spec.

Fairly certain that he told me his measure better than advertised and he had given me #s. Maybe something has changed. In any event, I think the center stage screen is a great start and is 1.2

What is the difference between the Titan Reference and Titan Pro 660-3D-HC? And can you post MSRP for both?

The 660 has the smaller TI chip size whereas the Titan has the .95 chips. OP, since you have a Runco connection, have you been able to see a SC-35d yet? From what I recall from Cedia reports last year, it was lighting up screens similar in size to what you are shooting for. Should be in your price range if you're getting a deal.

I thought it was the HIGHlite that had the smaller chips. The PDF specs for the list .95" chip for both Titans (Pro & Reference)

I believe the Titan Reference is a single bulb 2 D projector ultra contrast, The Titan Pro 660 3D HC is the dual lamp (2-330 lamps) 3D edition same as the Titan 1080P 3D Dual Ultra Contrast......

Chopshop you should look at the DPI's I highly recommend. I believe these are the best NON- DCI projectors currently available.

Me too, I would lov to have a dealer nearby that has significant demo area. I actaully had an opportunity on a demo unit Titan Ref for well within my budget...to much risk though, DPI would not warranty it.

We (DPI dealers) get regular opportunities to get the units coming out of shows and rep demo pieces as B stock. Substantially discounted, full warranty. But the list is a daily one, so you have to be ready to move when they pop up. HTH, Scott

Can't say, there isn't one available right now. They vary and there are so many configurations you may not get exactly what you want if you are trying for a "B". Unless you dealer is on top of it on a daily basis your chances improve. Last one on there was a "TITAN 1080P ULTRA CONTRAST DUAL 3D", but pricing leaves when the unit is sold.

The 'bay has a 1080P-500 at 25k that hasn't moved in 6 weeks. I'd say that the older style chassis are 10-20k values at best. Quite a bit lower than what those B-stock units are selling to dealers for.

If a Titan 500 can't move at 25, and there are Highlites on Videogon that are not moving at 9k, and D-Visions are stationary at 4k...I'd say the outlook is dim unless you have someone willing to buy your actual projector after they have seen it.

TITAN Pro 660-3D-HC is not a correct model name. The TITAN Pro 660-3D-Ultra Contrast is the same thing as the Reference. DPI uses different nomenclature when addressing the home cinema and commercial A/V markets. The Home Cinema unit is priced with a lens included.

Well, I have been trying to reach Jim over at DD for a few days but can't get him...I'm sure he is really busy. I will be able to go see the DD soon, but was hoping to get a detailed list of specs to play with and figure out some screen detials based on true measured specs. We'll see I guess.

In my books a dealer should be the first point of contact for all customer inquiries except where the company is set up to be customer direct. Most manufacturers are not staffed to handle this type of thing in a timely and complete manner. You should have got a reply latest next day...basic customer service.

I agree, and Dan has been great. He actually got me the specs right after I posted that I could not reach Jim. I didn't think Dan had yet received info and I had spoken to Jim already, so I figured I would try him. The specs are great if it holds up....5000l ansi umens, 10,000:CR, the veriscope, three cip .95" DMD, dust sealed engine, can't wait to see this thing in action.

I would say however that if a manufacturer makes a contact number etc available on their site, for example, they should at least reply to consumers who ask for information on that contact point offered. If not, why offer it.

The sony 515 is 4k, bright enough for your screen (15000lm), capable of passive 3d out of the box and under 40k. Try seeing it. It is on the big side tho (300lb).

I can't believe I hadn't come across that yet! It looks fantastic on paper..we all know how that goes, but certainly worth seeing in person with specs like that.

For me, 3d is not a concern. If I can have it for no extra cost, or very little extra cost, I would. If I don't have it, I don't care. I haven't watched a single movie in 3d. eek.gif

Sony uses their own built in DCI servers that are always inlcuded. Sony has had some reliability issues with their previous DCI projectors but this one is so new that it's hard to know if it's any better. I would assume that they still to some extent suffer from the problem that SRXD panels are not heat resistant enough for high lumens projectors.

Good to know. I have spent a good part of this afternoon researching them. If when I go see the DD unit, it blows me away, I will probably just stick to that. It will end up costing me at least $10k less than the sony between the unit, processing, lens,etc. I fea that if I keep searching, I will just talk myself into spending more than I need to. I might have to start to draw the line. Now, if the Sony proves dependable, and I could get it for a good percentage of retail, the 4k step might be worth it. I am going to have to keep researching I think.

Is the DD a modified Barco?

Sony lists 2 HDMI connections for the projector. 15,000 or 11,000 lumens. Uses RealD for passive 3D and they claim only 20% light hit because the light exiting the projector is already polarized. 8,000:1 average CR.

Wonder if CR is based on native or DCI color spec, and would HD from Bluray net out lower? Does RealD work with alternative content (Bluray)?

They sell a table to make swapping the lenses easier.

The only other DCI box that I know of that uses UHP lamps is the entry level NEC; I wonder if it really is more economical to use 6 UHP lamps instead of a single Xenon? I've priced the Barco Xenons and they are actually quite reasonable...certainly less than 6xUHPs.

The projector certainly looks impressive, though I've never seen it in real life- I'd imagine that you'd need to go to ShoWest or something like that to even view it. Though 40-something seems low if a lens is included, I would think that the projector, lens, server, etc would end up north of 50k, though I have no real idea how they have priced that item, nor what it actually includes.

The Display Development HD5 is based on a Christie chassis, as is the HD6.
