Can someone tell me in a language I can understand how to hook up a samsung sound bar t a 60 inch ld tv. We can't get any sound from the bar at all. and yet it is on and the woofer is in sinc

In order to help you, some more information is needed. Are you talking about the Samsung HW-E450 soundbar? What is the make/model of your TV and does it support ARC (one of your HDMI inputs has ARC printed next to it)? What source devices do you have and where/how are they connected?

BTW there is a master thread for the Sammy bar which has lots of connection info.

It is a Sony lc60ole640u. We are new to both. . No there is no arc next to any of the HDMI. and yes it is the E450. We've tried following the books directions with no luck.

Okay, if the sat receiver is your only source device, connect it via HDMI directly to the soundbar. Then connect another HDMI cable from the soundbar's out port to any of your TV's HDMI ports. Switch your TV input selector to whichever port you used. Turn on the soundbar and switch its input to HDMI. That should do it.

Going by your model number I think your TV is a Sharp and not a Sony. Your model number is probably LC60LE640U and it has ARC on HDMI 1 and an optical output (labeled digital audio output). There is a firmware update for this TV which you should do if you plan to have any luck with ARC or you could just use the digital audio output.

With only 1 source, she wouldn't need to mess with ARC. She could just do what Possumgirl mentioned above.

I seen the dish but I wasn't sure if it was their only source. If it is Possumgirl's advice is the best.

Well I wish I could say that your advise was right on. But nothing has helped. We bought expensive optical cable and there are no ports for them. I downloaded the upgrade for the firmware. Nothing. I guess when all else fails call the manufacture help line Thanks anyway. Yes the sat receiver is our only source. digital output didn't work. HDMI didn't work. Maybe the soundbar is bad. or the tv isn't what it is supposed to be.

What doesn't have an optical port? The TV? The soundbar certainly does. Please bear with us because you haven't really provided clear details here. What should work is connecting the HDMI cable from your satellite receiver to the HDMI IN port on your soundbar. Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port on your soundbar to your TV. Turn the receiver on, the TV on, and the soundbar on. Make sure that the soundbar source is set to HDMI using the SAT SOURCE button on the soundbar remote. Try adjusting the volume on the soundbar remote. Does it work? If not, what doesn't work? Do you have audio and/or sound? Please be clear.

Follow the instructions Doctego just provided, which is a more detailed version of what we explained earlier. Make sure your TV input source is set to the HDMI port where you connected the soundbar. With the sat receiver connected directly to the soundbar it's hard to imagine it isn't working.

Why did you buy optical cable? There should be no need to connect digital audio from the TV to the soundbar since you won't have any source devices connected to the TV. Also, since your TV is, apparently, a Sharp, it uses digital coax not digital optical. To make that type of connection from TV to soundbar, you'd need both type of cable plus a coax to toslink converter.
