Hello experts of this community.
To start off this is my first post so please be nice and I am just getting into building computers and all that is involved with it so please explain things in "idiot proof" terms or provide links to articles that explain what you are saying in easy terms. And thanks in advance to everyone's help.
Keep in mind that this is going to be installed in a house that is new construction so I can run wires and install anything else needed from the beginning wherever I want and need (as long as the husband doesn't mind).
My Goal: Build a PC that will basically run all my house needs hence the title HAPC lol
included in my house needs: -First and foremost be an HTPC that will be connected to my Onkyo TX-NR717 reciever and a Sony VPL-VW95ES projector.
-Second: control our whole home audio which will be connected to a stereo amp and then a six zone switcher which will connect to the six separate zones in our house.
-Third: run our home automation needs such as be able to control our thermostats, lights, door locks, and garage door via a smart phone.
So what we have done so far is ran all the speaker wires to each zone, rg6 coax to each room, and cat6 ethernet to each room cause I want everything to be as hardwired as possible. And everything is ran into a large closet where all my AV gear is going to be put, so things such as noise and sex appeal are not an issue for me.
I have put together a basic PC so far with these compnents:
APU=AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop APU with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7660D
Motherboard=MSI FM2-A85XA-G65 FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
SSD=Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC
RAM=G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)
Optical Drive=LG Black 14X BD-R 2X BD-RE 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA BDXL Blu-ray Burner
GPU cooler=COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO
PS=CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE
Case=Rosewill THOR V2 Gaming ATX Full Tower Computer Case
OS=Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
And I am running XBMC for my HTPC.
So for my questions and concerns:
1: I want to put my whole collection of BD's, DVD's, music and home videos on either several int. HDDs, or ext. HDDs or in a NAS setup. (or any other way you guys suggest) so what would be the best option for me, I already have roughly 6TB of stuff and will need room to add as we buy/make more movies. And I want to be able to access it on any android/IOS device and our smart TVs.
2: What software/hardware do I need to be able to access my music on our android phones/ipads to play in whatever room we are in at the moment.
3:Likewise the software/hardware needed to run the automation side of our home.
And is the PC that I currently have built powerful enough to support/handle all these activities?
4:What is the best way to set up any one of these projects (as far as software/hardware needed)
I should state that I am willing to spend money on whatever I need, I usually aim for the "best bang for your buck options" but if there is something where quality is essential I am fine with spending more money.
Preferred sites: newegg, amazon, or any reputable site.
Once again thanks for your help and sorry for the long post, but we a alot going on and NEED help!
And I have posted this thread in a couple different forums in hope that I find the right DIY crowd.
