Super Bowl official thread?

Thread Starter
Any "official" Super Bowl threads this year? If so, where?

The audio so far this years seems really sloppy, (for starters...)
It seems like they have been slacking on threads for important events this year.

I did notice that CBS apparently will be using a new graphics package. From what I have seen so far, it is almost a carbon copy of the National Broadcasting Company.

Everything else is top rated.

I love watching HD sports and the NFL on CBS. By far the best picture of all the broadcast networks I see. Now the Super Bowl pre-game coverage so far looks great. Very crisp, good color and and nice graphics. I have not had any issues with the sound. The Matchbox Twenty concert form earlier sounded pretty good to me.

I wish I was drinking exotic beer for the game. At least I'm saving money, and saving my body tongue.gif

I'm picking Baltimore to win. Final score 24-14.

I hope CBS doesn't use that shading they use along the scorebar if in fact the graphics are similar to CBS. It's totally unnecessary. While Fox does more than its fair share of production issues picture quality wise. I applaud them for making the score box presented in 16:9/widescreen format outside the 4:3 safezone. I wish NBC and CBS would follow Fox's lead in that aspect. We're in an HD world, why should the few people who are left behind with standard definition tv stand in the way of progress?

Let's make this the official thread, then. biggrin.gif

Kinda sad, AVS used to have like 5 different threads going for Super Bowls (adverts, pre game, technical, etc.) I guess HD has come of age. I await the day I can complain about the poor 4K PQ. tongue.gif

The broadcast looks pretty good overall, way better then what I got all year quality wise from NBC HD which in my mind is the worse of all the NFL networks when it comes to football. The sound seems pretty good to me as well. This is during all the pregame so lets see if the quality picks up or drops off during the game, I got SF 27-16 by the way.

I'm seeing a green stripe along the right edge of the video when in no overscan mode on my Panasonic TC-P65VT50. I have to use a slight overscan to get rid of it. Anyone else seeing this? It's on only CBS today, not prior to today.

Too bad that you can't see the 56-60 Mbps MPEG-2 4:2:2 video that is being sent to foreign countries via the NFL World Feed. The CBS feed to the affiliates, while MPEG-2 4:2:2 video, it is only about half the bitrate. Of course, by the time it gets sent out over the CBS affiliate transmitters, it is only 12-15 Mbps 4:2:0 video. Many foreign countries will be providing a better bitrate than we have in the states, because they are using H.264 at a bitrate that is at least twice what we have here.

Before anyone thinks that I am able to see the world feed, I can't, as it is encrypted. I can still tune it in and see what the bitrates are.

Anyone streaming on cbs online and seriously underwhelmed with the pixelated stream?

I see the same green line here on Fios. PQ is awesome, almost 18Mbps.

In terms of picture quality in my opinion

1. CBS
2. NBC (our station has 2 digital subchannels but has really good multiplexing equipment so there isn't much of an issue of picture quality)
3. ESPN (has made leaps and bounds compared to 3 years ago and is the best of 720p broadcasters)
4. NFLN (just seems lacking, doesn't have that crispness)
5. Fox (inconsistent, absolute crapshoot. It would help if Fox didn't cap it's bandwidth on the main channel to 12 or 13 mbps to leave bandwidth available for subchannels)

Yep, it is gorgeous!!

I just wish my local CBS station KPIX wasn't mashing the dynamic range so much, too bad NBC wasn't doing the game.

San Francisco - Comcast/OTA - KPIX

I didn't like Alicia Keys Star Spangled Banner performance. The piano took away it and she added more to the ending.
Hudson was better then Keys. I'm guessing the children were a pre-recorded track.

Getting the same green line in under scan and the usual sub par PQ from WCBS-DT on FIOS NYC.
Any camera or object motion causes artifacts.
The sound effect on the appearance of every graphic have to go.
Please CBS stop that!

The new CBS score bar looks like the old FOX Sports Score bar.

Loved the performance. Glad she added that to the end also. Have my reasons. Little things like that make me proud to be a Vet.

Yes, it is, typical Superdome picture quality, that is to say, not very good.
