Receiver owners: straight decide or remix?

I'm trying to decide what the best option is. I have an integra 40.2 receiver, which gives me the option to straight decode dolby surround sound formats or to recode them to PLII. I have a 5.1 setup. Any insight to which is the better option? I have it set for straight decode currently.

Try both and use whichever one sounds better to you.

If your source is 5.1 then you don't want/need to use PLII. If your source is stereo you can use PLII to simulate 5.1 and this is very subjective for you to decide.

If a source is already 5.1, you cannot recode it to PLII. ProLogic II is a way to expand stereo to 5.1 and it cannot be applied to a 5.1 source. People will generally assign PLII (or DTS Neo:6) to a receiver input. When the arriving content is 5.1, the AVR processes it normally. When it is stereo, the AVR applies the DSP.
