A subscription to a forum is designed to alert you to new content, be it post 1 or post 100,000. Many new threads could have very well been continuations of existing threads anyway.
I don't have any experience to speak of with the 'Huddler Tech' that you guys use but I know the more popular ones all have this standard. This is a pretty popular option for must users as they can simply sign up to whatever sub-forums they have an interest in and then get a daily email that has a list of the new threads and then a list of existing threads that had traffic that day. So, it's not post specific based as much as thread based so that your email looks like this:
Subject line of email: AVSForum.com alert for Speakers sub-forum
[body of email]
The following threads are new:
This thread is a hotlink for a thread started on this days
Posted by: user
This is another hotlink to a thread started today
Posted by: user #2
etc
The Following threads have been updated:
Hotlink for thread posted last week but had activity today
Updated by: user #3
Hotlink for another thread that was started a month ago but had activity today
Updated by: user #4
[/email body]
Each thread is listed only once in the email every day. So as you stated it doesn't matter if there was one post to the thread or 100,000 you still only get one link in the email for that particular thread. It's still the same it just adds the functionality of knowing what threads you haven't seen yet versus those you have and either 1) subscribed to already or 2) didn't have any interest in so no need to click them again.
As you can see this is helpful because it keeps you current with all the areas of all the forums you have interest in. I just don't have the time to manually visit every sub-forum of every forum I'm interested in. The email I get now is just a list of every single thread that was upated that day. If I'm subscribed to them then I get the updates as they're updated anyway. So I would rather not have those in my email at all because what I'm interested in is new topics that were started so I can read them to see if I'm interested enough to subscribe or comment on them. The current email notification for subscribed forums is rather useless since you have to wade through every single thread that had activity that day and attempt to cherry pick out the new threads you haven't yet read which can be difficult given how similar most thread topics in the same subforum can be.
Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this is a feature that would make this forum more user-friendly even though I might be the only one who has brought it up. Most just move on to the next forum rather than take the time to request features that the other forum likely already has.
