Was ready to pull the trigger for a panasonic tcp55-VT50 Until I read about the Samsung f8500 series

I am/was ready to pick up a 55" VT50 series Panasonic locally at Pauls TV's for $$1497.00 a very good price but then saw the Samsung CES preview and think I'll wait a few months and see what the reviews are on the F8500. I was looking for 55", 60" is just a little to big to fit in my living room. I think I can live with a 51" unless Samsung decides to come out with a 55" in the F8500 series.

I know it is not going to be anywhere near the $1497 range the Panasonic is selling for now, but have been hanging out on the VT50 thread and man there seem to be so many problems with it. Have not looked around enough to see what problems people have had with the Flagship E8000.

Even more issues with the E8000. I have owned both an E8000 and a GT50 and the Samsung got returned because it buzzed loudly and suffered from fluctuating brightness. The F8500 will not be available in 55''. I'm not sure why they refuse to make a 55'' plasma?!

Ok Watt, thank you on the 8000 Hard to believe there are that many problems with these (samsung/panasonic) TV's. Going to Pauls TV and have a look at the 55" VT-50

I bought the 65VT50 from Pauls a week ago and it's amazing. After running D-Nice's slides and applying his settings I couldn't be happier. Everything seems so true for the color and the black bars for 2.4:1 content is so much better than my D6500 samsung plasma that I had. Not to mention the bezel and glass is simply gorgeous even without the screen on. the F8500 will probably cost an extra $1,000 and might be as good if not better than the 55VT50 but you'll have to determine if it's worth the risk of waiting and missing out on the savings right now. good luck!
