Question for owners..... does the volume level stay on the display constantly? Or only when changing up and down? Thanks.

Yes it does. The LCD display in the front panel constantly shows the master volume in dB in the upper right corner. The volume is never shown in the TV unless it supports HDMI-CEC, then it is actually the TV OSD the one showing the volume level of the receiver.

Few more questions, as I make the most use of sc-1222-k receiver -
1. I can't play video files via media server. Am I missing a video setting on my receiver?
2. The iPhone app works fine, but the ipad app is not connecting to the receiver. On the iPhone app, how can I change music mode?

Thanks.

Read the manual and found out that the receiver doesn't play video over network. What a disappointment frown.gif after all will still need Apple TV.

Don't know of any current AVRs that will. The new Sony ES2800 and 5800 have some built in video apps like Netflix but I doubt they will play networked streaming video.

Make sure you downloaded the AVNavigator2012 for ipad. There are two versions...... One works; the other dont

It seems that his iPad issue is related to iControlAV2012 for iPhone/iPad and not to AVNavigator for iPad. I think that you wanted to say that iControlAV2 and Pioneer ControlApp don´t work with 2012 models.

Anyway, in case the problem was not an incorrect iPad app, the listening mode can be selected in the iPad app by pressing the LISTENING MODE button under the power ON button:

After pressing the button a pop up window appears with tree groups of listening modes: the first one has the "Optimum" modes for the mainstream. The second group, "Direct", shows a lot of other modes for movies, music, games and Sports. The third group, "Other", cycles through advanced modes.

You can find the list of all supported modes here in post #111

I'm not sure my receiver took the update via pendrive. When i put the pendrive in the front usb port it will show the folder AVR_1_189084018152. When i hit enter it says empty. I've reformatted several pendrives to fat32 and unzipped the folder before copying to the pendrive. I can see the seven files in the folder on my computer with the pendrive, but the receiver says empty. What am i doing wrong?

Be sure that the unzipped binary files are in the root of your pen drive and not inside a folder.

What does playing Netflix or Amazon have to do with the AVR? If you have a device that can play both your AVR shouldn't have an issue playing the video and sound.

How does this receiver stack up vs the Onkyo 809 and is the MCACC as good as the audyssey on that unit? I'm having a hard time finding information about MCACC especial current information that I can understand.

i had a 809 before i bought the pio and i think the pio puts out a much better sound .

^^^

I've never streamed movies over a wifi network before. I am asking because I am unfamiliar and this AVR is my newest piece of equipment. I don't know what I need to stream to the AVR & get HD video & audio.

Anything else like features? I really can't tell what features are actually necessary and which ones are just jokes. The current receiver I have the HT-RC360, I never used a feature. I just set it up to accept my 2.1 system and then played. The only thing I might touch in the future is the auto room calibration. I really don't know what's necessary though and what's a joke. For reference, receiver is either hooked up to a PC, or to an xbox 360. That's it.

That statement isn't correct. Your speakers output the sound. So, it doesn't matter what AVR you are using. If your speakers suck, sound is going to suck too.

The features from this AVR are hard to beat for the price. MCACC and Audyssey in my opinion are both good. However, I believe Audyssey XT / 32XT have offer a few more setting options so optimize sound, but nothing MCACC can possibly match.

Can anyone comment on the preamp voltage? I was trying to figure this out in another thread but people just kinda blew me off. Really am curious as to the preamp voltage on this unit compared to the 809 as I am buying this unit to connect to a Crown XLS 1500.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1446856/count-1-more-for-all-receivers-sound-the-same

I think for the majority of users (95%) the main sonic difference between receivers is the type of room correction software.

This is because most people do not have high end speakers nor do they turn it up very loud.

To say that a Onkyo 515 and a 818 sound drastically different is probably a psychological bias towards the 818 because you want it to sound better than the 515 because it costs more. But in reality, the room correction software is the same, and it will sound the same until you start getting into high volumes.

My 0.02 cents.

I have a denon 3311 which has audessey xt and pioneer 1222 which has advanced mcacc. Tested both receivers on same environment with two different nice speakers: Polks RTiA7s and Definitive Technology 7006. And I have to say that the Pioneer room calibration perfroms a better job; way better than Audessey XT.

Okie dokie. I was thinking about buying the 1222 just because of features and price, but I just can't do it. I know in the end I will want those 12v triggers for external amp.
Pulled the trigger last night and enjoyed the extra $20 off promo Newegg was running, then turned around and spent that $20 on the DieHArd box set on sale on Amazon today!tongue.gif

12V triggers output are there for legacy subwoofers and slave amps. Most of the new Subs and secondary amps have auto ON/OFF depending on the presence of current through the signal cable. This also reduces the wiring since you save the 12V triggering cables.

If you already have an external amp without auto power ON/OFF then you can always use a Smart power strip. This is, maybe, the most popular solution in these forums.

I played Chapter 4 of Master and Commander this morning.. WOW. Amazing sound and bass. Well, I reached a very nice calibrated MCACC setting last night and will update the OP with my advanced settings. I know it won't fit everyone's config but at least it may help someone in the right direction.

One thing that boggles me is that both my old Marantz and my new Pioneer is setting my center to -2.0db. I don't understand that as dialogue sounds good but is drowned out by effects sometimes. Do any of you have to manually increase your center channel levels?

Last bit, my two cents on the "all receivers sound the same", that definitely isn't true. My Marantz SR4003 sounded great on my high end MK Sound speakers and sub. That being said, the Pioneer 1222-K sounds better on the same speakers at higher volumes. (D3 amp?) Also, Advanced MCACC sounds AMAZING compared to the Marantz in my room that is horrible for acoustics. Don't get me wrong, the Marantz was a solid value but the Pio sounds better on the same speakers.

Or, you coul just leave the amp on. I had my Emotiva LPA-1 on for 5 years straight, even though my LMC-1/ UMC-1 had 12 volt triggers. Stand-by power is extremely minimal. Just my .02 cents.
Somebody please help me with my new 1222-k receiver... I tried hooking up my speakers and projector last night and couldn't get any signal or sound. I thought even if I somehow didn't have my speakers hooked up properly I should still get a signal to my projector, correct? I tried every hdmi input on the receiver and still couldn't get it to hook up. The projector gets a picture just fine when wired directly to the blue ray player. I even tried plugging my iPhone in and still couldn't get any sound. It did recognize I had my phone plugged in but that was it. Any recommendations please

That's an option I really don't want to do.

I am just starting to play with my new 1222. It also set my center a couple db relative lower then I had set it manually with an SPL meter when I was using my old reciever.

I am watching my first movie on it right now and I clicked the dialog enhancement up one notch. However if my kids were not sleeping I would turn up the volume instead smile.gif.

Good luck, I am just getting started too.
