I got your PDF, thanks! I tried out your advice & it works great on my SC-1526. Pumped the bass right up. I was watching the train crash in Super 8 & the girlfriend said it was shaking the china cabinet upstairs. Just what I wanted.
If it wasn't for your PDF, I would never had thought of going into the EQ settings. I've been in the hobby for quite some time, but my old receiver, an HK AVR-325, doesn't have all the settings new AVRs have & it it can get overwhelming without someone to explain things.
You mentioned that you'll be adding to it or creating new ones. I look forward to reading them.

I have NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter and it works great.

I've had my Sc-1222 for a couple months now, and have everything reasonably dialed in, thanks to all the suggestions from this forum. I have my SC hooked up the a distributed audio system in the house mainly because the three zone outputs provide a lot of flexibility. Especially with the AV2012 app. An issue I have not been able to resolve, is getting the main zone to provide a 0db pre-amped signal to the distributed audio system. Zones 2 & 3 work great, but the pre-amp L & R don't work, the DVR/BDR out doesn't work; nothing will output the main zone material. I've called Pioneer tech support, but they haven't been much help yet.

A second challenge, assuming that I find a resolution to the first one, is getting my DirecTV signal to any zone. I understand that the unit won't convert digital to analog, but if I hook the DirecTV analog RCA outputs to my distributed audio, and play the same source through the main speakers and the distributed speakers they are not "in sync" The signal through the Pioneer is delayed a bit, so the adjacent room speakers make it sound like a huge echo chamber. I tried routing the DirecTV RCA outs to the BDR/DVR inputs, but that didn't help. I'd appreciate any thoughts you more accomplished audiophiles have on either of these issues.

I've been really on the fence between a Denon 2313Ci & a Pioneer Sc-1222-K. I guess I have been fixated on really needing Audyssey....

Just ordered the SC-1222-K from Newegg about 10 minutes ago. The price is currently $529.99 (no promo code) and I was able to still use the &50 off VMEPROMOMAR13 promo code through V.me for a total of $479.99 shipped!!!! I really don't think I could do any better than that!

Don't know how long this will last as the "13" in the V.me promo code may refer to March13th. It should still be good for 3 more hours though as Newegg prices run through Pacific time iirc....

I was on the same boat as you, but I can tell you now that I don't regret my decision in buying the 1222 at all.cool.gif

None of the connections were crossed. There no shorts I even tried different speaker wires and different speakers.
The receiver had a bad amp. I returned it.

It happens you get dead receivers at times. As far as build quality I perfer my Onkyo HT-RC180 over it.
I may still get the pioneer kind of unsure at this point though.
It's my opinion though but right now not getting warm fuzzy feelings about it....

Something odd happened with this receiver,  I came home Monday night and I had no video output and nothing showing up on the receivers display screen when using anything HDMI in.   I pulled the BR player HDMI cord and went directly to the TV with it and it worked that way, then back to any of the HDMI in on the receiver and nothing.  I checked the signal in setting for HDMI and changed it around  (it was set correctly) and still nothing.

The Tuner worked, the input for the TV (fiber optic) also worked, but absolutely nothing HDMI worked.  The TV just showed "no signal", and nothing on the receiver display.  I tried everything I could find in the manual, no results until I did a complete system restore which I was trying not to do since I have to set everything up again.

My teenage son and one of his friends were playing their Xbox on the TV that day, (it was hooked directly to the TV via  HDMI in) using the TV input on the receiver for sound through the AVR, but I wouldn't doubt they had tried hooking it to the receiver first but I can't imagine what they could have done that would have caused this to happen.  Baffling, I just hope this isn't the first sign of an impending problem.

I just ordered this receiver and have a network question. I have no wired network access in my living room. What would you recommend to use to connect to the Internet? I have an Asus dark Knight router for wifi access.

I use NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter. It's not very expensive and you can buy it from Amazon with free shipping.

I use the iogear GWU627 (cheapest one i could find at amazon) for the 1122-K and it works great also. And it looks cool with the blinking network light on top of the receiver smile.gif

Anybody on the fence

BH Photo list the 1222 as discontinued.

Both BH Photo and newegg list several of the new models for sale now.

Good luck in your decision.

Get em while their hot.......

When I first set things up and was using a pair of VOT (Voice of Thunder - 4'x4'x17") subs that can blow dry your hair, I wanted to keep the bass from getting to be too muddy so I set it at 100Hz. I have since swapped out the VOTs with a "Carpet Bagger", a considerably smaller single sub and am finding at 100Hz the over all sound with 9 JBL 4311 Studio Monitors is pretty good and with more "solid" "firm" bass from everything. And big "clean" booms when necessary. I haven't really played with calibration as much as I usually do because it sounds great without fiddlin' with it. And yes it is a cleaner more solid sound. But I also attribute that to the 1222 in general and the D3 power.
Hi all. I bought my 1222 a couple of weeks ago. I set it up and did a basic calibration. Everything was working fine until tonight. All of a sudden my sub output has nearly disappeared. Before it was nice and strong. Now I have it turned up all the way just to get some kind of response. It is working, but it is terrible.

When I test the sound setup, the output is strong. From the HD-DVD and the Blue Ray, sub output is just nearly gone.

I have no idea where to start looking. I am going to start working on it tomorrow to see what I can figure out. I will start by resetting everything and running the calibration again to see if that fixes anything.

Dammit....I am so frustrated. I hate it when things just change with no apparent reason.

I actually took the plunge and got my 1222 yesterday before I discovered this thread..
My initial playing around (non-surround) on it has definitely left a good impression. I can't wait to put this thing through it's paces!
Anyone have any suggestions as to why MCACC makes seems to suppress the dynamics of my sound on movie soundtracks? When I go into the settings and turn off the EQ, everything sounds fine - the liveliness and dynamics are being restored. Are there any settings on the EQ that can be customized so that the upper frequencies aren't rolled off? I have used the Javygonx bass tweaks to great success, but I would like to feel that MCACC has some usefulness to me instead of just leaving it off for fear of it sucking the dynamic life out of my sound. Any settings that someone can recommend me experimenting with?
Shock - What do you mean by a basic calibration?. By ear, spl meter, MCACC or used "the force"

While playing your blu ray movie. Look at the front panel on the AVR. Does it display all the speakers in your setup, including the sub.

Also is the sub still turned on in settings menu.

Just bought the SC-1222-K for my birthday.

But I have no speakers! Can anyone recommend a good set of surround sound speakers that will be good for movies and music, yet will not break the bank?

I am an audio newbie! I haven't had a good stereo system in years so it probably would not take much to impress me. They do not have to be so loud that it shakes the house. I just want good quality sound.

Ideally I would be able to get speakers that are less then $300. If there are sets out there for $150, even better.

Recommendations?

150 for a complete 5.0 system, that is not possiable. You have a wonderful new receiver and you want to power garbage with it? Your speakers should cost at least 2 times the price of the receiver or you paid to much for the reciever and got more than you need. Cause the bulk of your money should go to the speakers.

Appreciate the response.

I bought this receiver with the idea that over time I would build myself a high quality home AV system. This is my first component. I can not run out and spend $1k for speakers right now so I am hoping that I can find something that is 'acceptable' until I can afford to get $1k speakers (possibly next year).

Also, as mentioned, I am a total audio newbie. When you say a complete 5.0 system, what exactly would that be? I can find 5.1 systems out there for $200:

Would that not work?

Lastly, OK, lets assume I can spend $1k on speakers, what would your recommend?

Sorry for the newb questions, but I obviously have a lot of learning to do. smile.gif

You can get the Energy Classics for $150 when is on sale, but those are only good in a small living room or bedroom. If you want something that won't cost much, I would suggest buying a pair of Pioneer FS52's towers. That would be about $200 when on sale. If you include the center channel is another $100 dollars. That will give you a 3.0 set up for about $300 dollars. You'll get some base out of those towers, but if you want more bass you will have to get a sub. BIC F12 is about $200, and the Klipsch RW-12D when on sale is $300.

I wouldn't recommend buying the 5.0 home theater speaker systems. You won't be happy, that receive would probably blow them up if you drive them past their capacity, which isn't much. Furthermore, they won't sound good if you have a big room. If you want it for your bedroom then they will work. Again, I would suggest to look at the Pioneer Phase 2. They will be your best option. If you were in my area, I would offer you my Monitor 70s (pair) for $300, which are only about 5 months old. I like my Monitor 70s. They sound good, but lately my wife and I have been listening to a lot more music than movies, and I want better speakers for music now.

Looking for some suggestions. I've had my SC-1222 hooked up for a week now. When I first hooked it up, the picture was offset to the right on my tv. I had to go in the video parameter options and turn off the v. conv for the picture to look normal. After I had a chance to look through the manual, I decided to try some adjustments in the video parameter options. Every time I go to turn the v. conv on, the picture gets offset to the right. I switched out HDMI cables and that didn't help. I hooked a smaller Insigna 19" tv up to the receiver and it worked fine on it. For some reason, my Samsung tv won't switch over correctly when I turn the v. conv on leaving me with no adjustments in video parameters. My video setup is Samsung LN-T4665F, Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC(TWC) cable box and the SC-1222. I've looked through the tv setup menu and didn't see any adjustments that I thought would help. Any ideas as to what might be going on?

kutyadog, with that budget I recommend the Monoprice 9774 (Monoprice rebranded Energy Take Classic 5.1) for $278.58. They are the Energy Take Classic 5.1 with Monoprice logo. It is the best 5.1 set you can get under $300. Nonetheless this speakers set is to little for the SC-1222K, but you can save for a good front pair and build a complete 7.1 system in the next step. In the mean time you will be power limited but they will deliver enough power for a small/medium room with standard ceiling with outstanding quality for that price, so I think that you will be happy with this option.

Having a small issue with my 1222 and a HDCP error. The avr works great other than this small issue I cant seem to fix/solve. When listening to Pandora, with my Samsung plasma tv off, the avr flashes HDCP error, but if I have the tv on, all is fine. Sometimes I listen to Pandora for extended periods, and rather not leave on the tv for fear of burn-in from the Pandora OSD. Any ideas?
