Idon't know about the "funkiness in the sound" but not recognizing the sound when changing inputs sounds like a handshake issue. I've never had any issues with my vsx-23 or any other Pioneer receiver I've had over the years. But then again, I've been pretty lucky. I've bought and sold 15-18 receivers (most brands except Yamaha) off ebay/craigslist/audiogon and so for I haven't had any problems with any of them..
Yeah, sorry: it was my term (funkiness). This is what he said: "some issues with the HDMI switching due to it only supporting the older HDMI standards (essentially depending on the order I fired my equipment up in it would default to HDMI pass through mode which would kill the sound unless I restarted the receiver)."
Now I'm beginning to wonder why the power ratings of this side of the Pioneer receiver spectrum have declined since I last bought. The 1014 was 110w and the 1023 is 80w? Why is that happening, and do I care? I mean, how will I know if I will notice? I rarely play my 1014 louder than -22 or -18db.
