Game of Thrones Season 2

Game of Thrones Season Two is being released on 2/19 in time for the upcoming third season on HBO. I'm hoping it comes down in price a little though, but I doubt it will since it's an HBO show.

I'll keep my eyes on the weekly ads - thanks!

I was in Walmart earlier and you can preorder the bluray for $34.99 and they give you instant access to the 1st episode on VUDU. They also claim to have exclusive bonus features.

Picked up my $0.01US BD of Episode 1/Season 2 at BB on Tues; you put down a deposit of $5US toward the box set.
Like that its five bucks & then you can just price-match when it comes time too pick it up.
WatchED E1/S2 three times now; they do a good job of 'catching up' w/four story arcs & adding another.

I saw the ad when I was at Target today - $29.99 it is!
Curious why Amazon has not dropped their price to match?
Maybe because BB is also selling a $34.99?

Amazon have just reduced the price to $29.99, so it's immediately been added to my order just in time before shipping.

Here in Australia, it's being advertised for over $60.

Any know if this will be the "HD" Digital Copy from iTunes included on the Blu Ray?

I read something on another forum recently that said HBO was starting to include HD Digital Copies on their Blu Rays (via iTunes, not UV). However, I'd be buying this only if it has the HD digital copy so that's a deal breaker for me otherwise.

Sweet! Now I don't have to bother getting a price match.

Went to Best Buy for the exclusive packaging, they price matched Target for me though.

Got one at Beast Buy for $29.99. Didn't care about the exclusive packaging, which was $5 more.

A steal, for $29.99. Dread to think think how much it'll be instore, here in the UK.

My daughter bought the Blu-ray set and I added the digital code to my VUDU account (that we share) so it does work for UV.

Yes, both the iTunes and the UV/Vudu digital copies are HD.

In my case redeeming the DC via Vudu did *not* get it transferred into my UV locker (check your account at uvvu.com), so it was not accessible via other delivery services. You have to additionally redeem it at Flixster to get it into UV.

Picked it up at Wally mart this morning for 29.96! They dropped their price to beat target by 0.03!

Anyone watch them yet and have impressions of video quality?

The video quality, like season 1, is stunning. Shot on Alexas cameras like Skyfall, which translates to a very impressive blu ray image.

Thanks, you are correct. It did not show up in UV until I had also redeemed the code in my Flixster account. It's good to know although I only use the VUDU service. I don't watch movies on my iPhone, iPad or computer even though the capability is there...but I realize that many people do.

Is there a way to get an itunes copy of Season One for those who bought the BluRay (like I did)? Seems a waste if the answer is No, then why bother with digital copies for season 2.

Just received GOT Season 2 today from Amazon. PQ is gorgeous...really impressive inky blacks that I just don't get from HBO via Directv during the regular season. The only drawback I see re-watching season 2 on blu-ray is that season 3 will be hard to watch on broadcast HBO.
I got my copy of Season 2 on release day. It has amazing picture quality, however, I feel that Season 1 has the slightest edge in the PQ department. The colors on the Season 2 seem just slightly more subdued, even on the King's Landing scenes.

I'm in the middle of episode 5 right now, but there is a scene in episode 4 (where Cersei confronts Tyrion about sending Princess Myrcella to Dorne), and the camera shifts from Cersei to Tyrion during the conversation. When the camera shifts to Tyrion, there's severe noise and softness. While this only lasts during this one scene, and for most likely a total of twenty seconds, there's no such anomaly on the Season 1 blu rays.

But, of course, this is nitpicking. This just tells you how high a standard the first season dics set. Regardless, I believe the purchase was worth every penny. While I wasn't too impressed with Season 2 in regard to the actual episode content, watching it on my calibrated 60" Panasonic ST50 is definitely a much, much more engrossing experience.

As scirica mentioned, it's going to be disappointing watching Season 3 on HBO and its broadcast quality "HD".

I'm watching it on a calibrated 65" Panasonic VT50 via an Oppo 93. Based on the reviews of Season 1 I'll have to pick up that set as well!

For those that have purchased Season 1, is there a specific release that I should be looking for? I see at least three different blu-ray releases on Amazon (Discontinued, 5-disc, 7-disc). I want to get the best of the best!

From my understanding, the discontinued version of Season 1 are the first runs of the discs (fresh off the presses, as it were) and contain the infamous "George Bush head on a spike" in Episode 10, in which the crew needed more heads on spikes, and they just chose whatever was lying around, which happened to be a prosthetic head of good ol' GW.

All distribution of the original "George Bush" discs were halted, and a remastered version which edited the likeness of the head were put into circulation. These are the versions currently being sold, and I can't comment on the picture quality. I have the original version, and the picture quality is immaculate. If you want to guarantee absolute greatness, I'd go with the discontinued version.

Hopefully someone can comment on the picture quality of the remastered version as it compares to the original.

Edit:

I popped in Disc 5 of Season 1 to confirm I had the discontinued version of the discs, and yeah, Season 1 is sharper, and more vibrant. Definitely better looking than Season 2.
Thanks for that! It cost a pretty penny to get that discontinued version, but not too high a price to pay for what some are saying is the best blu-ray to date. Can't wait to get it in my Oppo!

Whether I load them in my fat PS3 40 GB BDP, my Sony BDP 570, or my laptop, it takes minutes for the disks to load. Oh well, it's worth the wait.
I had heard this -- the thing about the Bush head, but I'm wondering if the reason for the reissue of season one might really have been to address the defective authoring of the first release -- my original first order would freeze my player, so I got another set. I had both the original set and reorder at the same time, so when the second exhibited similar problems, I mixed and matched the sets until I thought I had culled a complete working set from the two. Now that I go back to that hybrid set, I realize the problem was never overcome, only that the freezing was unpredictable.

Does anyone know if the freezing/impossibly slow loading of the first season was corrected with the reissue? -- I'd like to get another set, but there would be no point if it did the same thing. Thanks!

Highly doubtful, as the reissue occurred immediately following the discovery of the GW head on the first release. Way too coincidental to be anything but. Freezing sounds more like a player conflict rather than the discs. I don't recall hearing anything about a major authoring problem with S1, and my copy (purchased before the GW fiasco) plays fine.

From the internet research I did regarding the GW "fiasco", HBO was forced (disgracefully so) to discontinue production of the version with GWB on a stick and alter all future versions to mask this. I just paid $129 for a blu-ray set that was available at one point for under $30! I wanted the real thing.
