Dune Smart series questions

Hi,
I think I'm about to order a Dune Smart series unit but I have a few questions.

I have all my files on my Synology 213+ NAS. Do I need to worry about running anything specific on the NAS for the Dune to see it? Like NFS, upnp, dlna, media server, etc. Most of my files are on the NAS.

I can see the NAS from all my home networked PCs, so shouldn't the Dune also be able to see and play whatever I want?

The Dune smart series seems to be modular but since the base unit (H/B/D) all support internal HDD, what's the benefit if getting the expansion HE module? Their web site talks about 2 or 3 components in a Smart system. Why can't I just get one (base unit)?

Hi Steve,

The Dune is a great unit. Your Dune is best served by using either NFS or SMB from your NAS. You can use just the base unit without any expansion particularly if you are using a NAS. Some people buy a base unit and later decide that they really want a Blu-ray drive or another hard disk bay. That's all. Enjoy!

The Dune Max has internal hard drive storage plus the Blu ray drive, so this would be your all in one player

When I initially started researching these players, all I wanted was something to play/access/view what I have stored on my NAS. However, while researching I came across players that also had many apps, such as YouTube, YouTube XL, many sports and news app, etc. Like the Pivos AIOS player. I started to like that.

Certainly the Pivos AIOS isn't as good a player as the Dune. I'm wondering if I got the Dune (Smart series) do I give up the ability to have the type of apps that the Pivos AOIS has? They have some type of app marketplace/store; many free.

Its really hard to find a player that does it all. I rather not have to buy 2 devices.

I also hear that the Dune web browser isn't that good. True?

Suggestions?

All of the web browsers on these devices are not good tbh. Aside from some very basic searches I would not bother using these types of devices for surfing the web.

There are very limited apps on the Dunes. As of now I don't believe there is any sort of marketplace, although there should be the ability to add Apps.

Specifically what Apps are you looking for (i.e. don't count on seeing Hulu, Vudu, Netflix, etc... as of now)

I have a synology running my work server and have no doubt that would be easy to setup with my dune smart HD. I plan to buy a big synology soon to store everything instead of using my windows PC.

Also where can you buy the Dune HD Qwerty mini wireless keyboard in the US? I don't see it on their web site.

No. Streaming on dune is already perfect as it is. System storage is only here for have interactivity and other small things.
