ST50 vs. ST60

So it looks like supplies are dwindling and Panny may sell out of the 60ST50. Prices are actually going slightly higher as a result and most are paying around 1650. The new ST60 will be out in a month or so and is only a couple hundred higher - listing for 1899 but will likely be available for around 1800? Would it be worth it at this point to just wait and get the ST60 or continue to scramble and surf looking for the best deal on an ST50?
Even though indicators are there will not be a big upgrade in PQ, I would just wait for an ST60 at this point. I mean, maybe they improve the video processing or some other aspect(s) that still affect the PQ. I believe the ST60 will have more apps too if that matters.

Ask yourself this: Does saving 2 to 3 hundred dollars matter to me? If so, keep surfing for the ST50. If not, buy the ST60 and don't look back! Both are great displays and as David said, will likely be VERY similar in PQ. You 'may' get a Touch Pen with the ST60! rolleyes.giftongue.gif

I thought the 60ST60 was 1899 on the Panasonic site... they must have changed it.That is really a very good price considering the ST50's are now around 1600.

I think they lowered it. It is a great deal. I'm thinking too good not to wait for because it should only go down from there.

It shows up as $1,445 on the panasonic site for me, as a business customer. I'm getting one.

Its crazy how the deals on many of the ST/GT50 models are really not all that good right now. BB has the 55'' GT50 right now for the same price I got mine almost a year ago. For $1499 i much rather get the 60'' ST60. I think it will be available on sale for that price or cheaper some time soon after release.

Almost bought a 55ST50 for $1,299 today at Best Buy. I thought I'd check Panasonic's site first for the employee discounting and they had the 60ST60 for only $145 more. No brainer. Pre-Ordered.

If I'm not mistaken, mid-February is still two days away. wink.gif

I'm thinking maybe a 60" ST60 with a Darbee and pro calibration for this year to replace my broken GT50. At these prices I think it will be worth doing that rather than spending twice as much (more than likely) on the ZT and not having any money to calibrate it or buy any other toys. The only other thing is to see what the VT prices look like.
Not to mention the fact that the ST60 includes 2 pairs of 3D glasses!!!!

Hopefully not to long of a post, so here is my question for the Plasma experts. My question, would you go with TCP60ST60 (I can get it for the employee discount roughly 1500) or go with tcp55vt50 plasma for roughly same price?

Very Confused

Tough call. I'm kinda in the same boat. I can't even get the discount, but i still think i have decided to wait and see what i can get the 60ST60 for. Those extra 5 inches are tough to pass up at such a good starting MSRP. I also wanna check out the ZT, but with the price tag it is expected to carry it will need to be REALLY impressive to warrant the extra money IMO. In addition to the contrast/blacklevel/color improvements they also would have to improve video processing (particularly with sub bluray quality content) for me to be interested in it.

I am hoping that they have improved the IR issue this year, but i am not holding my breath.

Great prices on the 55VT50's now, and it's an amazing set...but I'm convinced anything short of 60 inches and I'll have buyers remorse about the size difference. I'm in a similar dilemma, but I'm pretty set on a 60 inch (or 65!) for now.

ST50:
- better blue
- better 3D on p24 materials
- slightly better motion resolution w/ dejudder off

ST60:
- better black
- better green
- better apps
- 2 free glasses

no mention of improved sharpness.

Better video processing
I have been interested in purchasing a 55 gt50. may I ask how long you had yours and what happened to it? I am now considering the new 55 st60 as well, but I'm on the fence. thanks smile.gif
post #24 of 62
I just bought an F5500 but am thinking of exchanging it for the ST60...However, someone on Craigslist is selling a 55 inch ST50 for 850 dollars...Tempting!
Craigslist is always tempting but zero warranty would be my concern...
Did the ST50/ST60 and the new 2500htz panels in general get rid of the Green dither when the Brightness was moved beyond 60 on the settings?
Brightness above 60 definitely has green dither. Why would anyone crank it that high is puzzling to me. That defeats the inky black of plasma tvs. ST60 pretty much is perfect at 0 or +1 (or 50 and 51).

From reports on here the ST60 has much worse input lag than the ST50 for gamers out there.
OK so here is the situation in NZ.

We have no confirmed date for the ST60, but I have been told it's $4k for the 65"

The ST50 is still widly available for $2799 for the 65"

Would you pay the extra $1200 for the ST60, or save the money and get the ST50?

I do have the budget for $4k, but it would be nice to buy another set of surround speakers and sub and move up to the 7.2 set up.
Any word yet on if the ST60 has much improved sharpness over the ST50?
