Yes, but in my opinion it is more than frequency response.
The 4552 has a higher flux density, so better transient response. More precision.

What would make you think that? I'm not even remotely offended. confused.gif

You thought I was talking about dome tweeters versus CD's. I said "I haven't said anything about dome tweeters versus compression drivers. Of course these all use CD's."

Not sure how that sounds offended. I would rewrite it, but I'm not sure how else I can say it. smile.gif

I could start using more smiley faces......biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

OK, cool. My point was that I'm guessing we share the fact that we like compression drivers.
I was trying to say why BMS are worth purchasing, as compared to other compression drivers.

There are reasons to like compression drivers, and reasons why compression drivers vary.

I havent really followed the complete seos wg's but would a pair of 4592ND's or 4595ND's fit the bigger SEOS's?
What do you guys do for crossover panels?
Do you straight up roll your own, on pegboard?
Or do you get a small run of PC boards done, and solder your own components to them?

But the 360 also extends higher than the DE250. So it's a wash. And I believe all 3 use the same diaphragm material.

I sent Geddes a DNA-360 and he tested it. He was impressed. Even though he said the 360 did indeed extend higher, that's not really worth looking at because very few people can hear around 19khz......and virtually no one can tell the difference of a few decibels up that high. The DNA-360 tests better than the DE250. But I've said many times it's not going to ever be noticed by anyone but a computer microphone. So at some point we should stop looking at 1db differences and just enjoy the speakers we've built.

Audio is one of the rare industries where people actually want to pay more for something, just to do it. biggrin.gif

A good example is with the Karma Series versus the Fusion Series, or the 350 versus the 360 compression driver. No one has ordered the Karma Series yet, but the 15" model is one heck of a speaker that measures great, and sounds incredible. I've told people that every time they ask, but they always go for the more expensive Fusion-12.......just to be safe. smile.gif Yet the Karma-15 is only in the Karma Series based on price......not performance.

On the SEOS-12, the 350 and 360 are nearly identical when crossed over where most of these speakers are. Back when I got all of this stuff in, I had an equal number of both. The 350 was $20 cheaper. When people were getting their preordered SEOS-12, many were getting the CD at the same time. The 360 was ordered about 40 to 1 compared to the 350.

My friends....we must stop the madness. biggrin.gif

I am pretty sure I am going to stay with what I have. smile.gif I do not even have the pricing on the BMS drivers. smile.gif I do like to try different things out. As evidenced by having four different screens in my room within the last 1.5 years and my fifth set of speakers in this room in the last four years. smile.gif I am pretty happy with what I have. My next change will be to replace my projector this fall. Waiting to see what Sony does for a VW95 replacement and JVC with the RS4810/RS56 replacement. Other than looks, room is all black, I have pretty good image and sound. smile.gif

I just silcone the components to a piece of 1/4" MDF that I can tuck away in the enclosure. The new build will probably have the xover boards externally so I can go back and forth between passives on the CDs, and experiment with active xovers too. I know some guys drill holes and zip tie the components, and I have seen some who use nice boards...I just liked the ease of the method I chose.

Pretty much the same. 1/4" Luan and hot melt glue. I use Velcro to fasten the XC board to a flat horizontal surface inside the speaker.

So what kind of discount are we talking about here? The only product of theirs I'm interested in costs at least $700 a pop....and I'll need three of them. eek.gif

I can see telling my wife that. But dear, I had to get them. biggrin.gif I'm thankful she has nothing to do with the theater room. She just rolls her eyes every time a new box shows up. smile.gif

This is a bit of a misnomer. The agreement is 30%, if you pay by wire transfer.
Since Paypal is the method of choice so far, the discount for that is 27%.

You're not kiddin on that...I have to put a decent amount of effort to keep her happy ( by happy I mean in the mall, of course biggrin.gif) and away from the bank transaction history.
LOL....same here. "Whats that box......um thats something I ordered a while ago. I told you about that remember?." biggrin.gif B ut limited funds make boxes showing up randomly ...OK with her. Deeper pockets and she would really wonder.

As this project has really ramped up, lately I've been shipping everything to my work so ummm, well, you know. biggrin.gif

If Fedex showed up with 7 SI subs at the house I think I would have put her over the edge. smile.gif

For those getting the 4550s you going with the 8 or 16 ohm version?

16 as it will match up better with the 8ohm drivers sensitivity than the 8's will.

Is the 18N862 available in 4 ohm?

Unless someone closer has a 4550 they would not mind sending over for design purposes.

mtg, just want to verify since I'm thinking about this combo. What is the impedance of each driver for the 4550/TD15M?
