Bass shakers just won't work...

I was hoping you guys could help me solve my problem, I have an Onkyo tx-sr805 receiver (with sub turned on) than from the sub pre out using an rya Y cable it is plugged into the CD rcas on an old sony receiver. From there I have my bass shakers plugged into L&R but no shaking happens. I have tried everything including changing the receiver that powers the bass shakers but nothing works. Any input would be greatly appreciating. Thanks!

You need an outboard amplifier ( not a separate receiver ) to drive the bass shakers. Parts express sells inexpensive amps that will do the job (figure 100 watts per shaker should do the job). Btw hooking up your subs preout to your CD input won't work.

On this thread http://www.avsforum.com/t/1128216/bass-shaker-amp all they used was an old avr so it doesnt need to be powered with an outboard amp. Also from your user name I assume you go or went to the university of Arizona? I go there as well!

Are the bass shakers mounted or just sitting there on a table or something? Also, are you listening to 2 channel music or 5.1 movies?

Plug the cd player to the sony and connect the shalers to the speaker outputs and see what happens. Bypass the Onkyo altogether just to test.

Keep cranking,

If I bypass the onkyo and just play music from the second avr than I can hear the bass shakers playing music very poorly in the couch since it isnt sending it low freq.

if you are using a receiver to power the buttkickers you need to set the receiver channels for full range output on the channels used for the buttkickers

you also need a low pass / high cut filter in there for about 45hz which is around the recommended crossover

anything above that will come out as sounds etc and not shaking as it should be.

so for the sony receiver, you want to make sure to set the channels to full range. but you still need the low pass /high cut filter

It is RECOMMENDED to get a external amplifier though.
