Troubleshooting with super-cheap used projector - Epson EMP-1715

So, recently, I bought an EMP-1715 off of ebay (about $170). I'm just a kid, so it was within my price range.

Got it home, turned it on. Worked great for a few minutes, then I bumped it just a smidge. The bulb turned off, the power indicator went red steady, and the bulb light started flashing. From what I can tell, the bulb isn't broken, it's seated fine in the connectors, and the filter and bulb covers are both properly installed. I also think that the bulb is an original; it has "Epson" on it, and has the correct part number.

This happens constantly, sometimes with movement, sometimes without. it makes it nearly unusable.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Edit: forgot to note that, when ceiling mounted, the same thing happens. Even without movement, it happens. However, while ceiling mounted, the picture often doesn't even come on past the "Epson" splash screen.

170 bucks? Can you send it back?

Sounds like the lamp is weak, I've seen that before.

@verge: Possibly, I'm definitely considering it.

@Sheridan so, that would mean I'd need to buy a new one, right?

Edit: Which bulb should I buy? I know that I'm supposed to steer clear of "compatible" ones.

All my blubs simply stopped working. For me, it is unclear whether or not a new blub would fix the problem.
It can be, but you can also only waste your money.
I would send it back.

Bulb gonna cost as much as the whole projector. If you could send back that would be awesome.

Older xga projectors like that should be in the 50 dollar range IMO. Be sure to check Craigslist as well.

SiggUA is right, It COULD be the lamp. So you're taking a gamble there. Unfortunately, there is no way to test a lamp other than trying it in a projector.

And Verge2 is right that a new lamp is going to cost a few bucks, Provantage lists it at about $200. Considerably cheaper than I would have expected.
