I'd go for the new RS46. As for "How can the cost be the same as a new projector?", my first Blu Ray player died 2 months beyond the regular factory warranty. Since I bought it with an AMEX card, it was covered for an additional year. But I was required to send it in to an authorized repair center for a repair estimate. The estimate to fix it was $ 550.00. It cost $ 525.00 new. American Express sent me a check for the original cost ( and I bought an Oppo BD83 which is still working ). Get the RS46 !!

The problem is you have a faulty optical block which is the most expensive part of the projector. Including work the cost of exchanging it is somewhere around $3-4000 if I remember correctly.

The X35 should be a very considerable upgrade. Sharper, better motion, higher contrast, better colors, brighter, 3D plus you would get something completely new versus a used unit which will eventually break down again. I would jump on the deal!

Go for it if you have the money; it's a no-brainer to me to get the RS46 at 1/2 price.

I agree with everyone as a used RS15 is not bringing that much for a perfect condition one and I'm sure with the RS46 you will get a 2 year warranty.

I am in the exact same boat. I had a HD-950 that went bad and getting an X55r and now have to move my roof mount because of the change in connection locations. Hope I have some paint left for touch ups

Well apart from the pain of the installation, I think you will be pleased with the end result: I went from a HD350 (with full 125 point calibration by Lumagen and a Darbee) to an X35 with the same accessories. I've found that the image is brighter, which allows me to close the iris right down and still measure 15fL, better blacks, sharper and improved motion. I only really bought the X35 as a stop gap since I know I'll end up with a true 4K projector at some point and I wanted a white chassis to better blend in with my room (it's not a dedicated room unfortunately), but it's going to be a great stopgap. I've also been measuring the light output and after 120 hours I've barely dropped 5-7% output which is much less than my old HD350 did over the same time with a new lamp.

I don't know what kind of mount you are using, but I am easily able to remove and re-install my projector using a Chief mount with quick release thumb screws all by myself.
