Bought a new DeWalt toy last night to help build the entertainment center. I think I'm going to make something like this:

You could actually rename the theater "The Theater That DeWalt Built". Perfectly acceptable.

You are going to leave some type of access to the main shutoff right? I know it's obvious to do so, but stranger things have happened.

haha When I brought home the table saw, my fiance' said "Great. Another yellow saw!" It really should be helpful being as portable as it is. And yes, I will definitely have access to the water main. The first house I lived in they covered it up and it was such a pain!

Started putting in some new wire for all the lighting the basement. I had to pull new wire up to the switch at top of the stairs and then pull a new wire up to the attic to the light at the top of the stairs. Here's what I felt like in the attic last night trying to find the wire...



And then when I found the wire I felt like this...



It really is rare that you will find me working without safety glasses and work gloves. Last night on my last pull (after I called it a night) of wire to the attic the wire got caught and when it released I shot my hand up into some drywall and it did not feel good...

This is a really cool build. I will be following along now.

I'm with you on the DeWalt stuff, I bought this a couple of months ago and have used the crap out of them.



Also, one suggestion, if it's possible. Leave both sides of the bar open. Assuming you will have "refreshments" back there, it would suck to walk all the way around in the middle of a movie to get another drink.

Also, are those bar sides corrugated metal? I did this in the shop, it gives it a nice look.

So many good points here. First off I really need to get on the 20V train. When I use my friends it's amazing how much of a weight difference alone there is. And you're exactly right about the bar. I've gone back and forth about having it loop around because of that reason. And also it seems like when I look at it from different angles in my sketchup drawing it seeems like if you were to sit on the sides and try and talk to someone sitting in the middle the column would be in your way completely. So I'm pretty sure I'm just going to eliminate the sides for all of these reaons.

What you have in your shop is exactly what we're going for. I think with the brick and tin it'll make it all look pretty cool and I've got a couple ideas for the bar shelves and things like that. Your shop looks amazing. We'll be putting up a garage soon and that's how I want it to look. Show room clean, but still a functional garage.

And he said "Let there be light!"

I only have two more rows (6 lights) left. All of these lights I'll have on a 3-way switch, but the other two rows, which are in the living room area, will each be on two separate dimmer rows. I also have one more light to go at the top of the stairs. The wire is ran up there, but need to get a light in place. When these lights turned on I think I finally had my "this is actually happening" moment. Pretty damn good feeling. Still have a long way to go, but we're making plenty of progress.

Well I decided last night that if I have a window above a tv, then I'll never open up those blinds. So why even have one there? I just double layered the foam insulation and caulked it shut and finished the framing on top of it. Pretty easy, only took about 15 minutes.

Started making soffit for the other side of the main beam last night. Got the table saw all dialed in and adjusted, worked great. I used my miter saw the first time to build soffit and I'm so glad I bought this table saw. Made making consistent cuts easy and was overall just easier to use for this situation. Having lights also makes it a hell of a lot easier to do things as well haha

Don't be fooled by this photo. Bean (bottom left corner) slept the whole time I was cutting these boards

Got the rest of the lights wired up temporarily until I can get some dimmer switches and get the new breaker box installed. Just posting new views to document it.

Built the access closet for the water meter last night.


Going to build another the same size to have access to the valve coming into the house.


I didn't notice, until I was building the access closet, that one of the corners of my "exterior" walls was EXTREMELY un-level. I'm assuming it was because I had no light when I put it up and at the same time I only had a little level. From where the door way starts to the north wall it was off by about 2 inches. Luckily it was a really easy fix. I went back and looked in some photos I had taken of the room and you can definitely see it when you know that it's there.

Before I got on this forum I had never heard of Smurf Tubing. Other than this forum, there really isn't much info for installing it. So I'm going to post a crap load of pictures of what I decided to do, based off of things I had found through Google images, so someone else in my position down the road will have some sort of an idea of where to start

I'm using smurf tubing, in this project, to run speaker wire for my 7.1 onkyo surround sound speakers. I started off just by using a basic electrical box.


I'm using 3/4" Smurf Tubing, which has an OD of roughly 1". I'm using 1" spade bit (below) for the electrical box, and I'm using a 1 1/4" auger bit for drilling through framing. You could probably use a 1" auger bit for drilling through your framing, but the extra bit of slack from movement while you pull the tubing through is helpful.


I'm using electrical boxes because I plan on using a speaker mount that has an electrical cover plate.
I'm hanging the two back speakers from the ceiling.






The 1" Spade Bit Hole is pretty tight to the point that I'm thinking that the smurf tubing should stay in the hole without any help





Since I'm not 100% sure yet what I'm going to build for my entertainment center I'm making the tubes run to my water main valve access closet. Later on I'll run line(s) to the entertainment center from the closet.




You can see the locations of my 2 back speakers and 2 side speakers. (I haven't run lines to the side speakers yet)

Looks good. I know a lot of guys on here recommend that you leave conduit for future stuff and run your wire outside it.
