S.E.O.S.R. MEGA BUILD - Page 10

I think a replacement TAD 4003 diaphragm is around $2k. Their cost is obviously lower.

The 950PB with a truextent Be diaphragm is the "poor mans" version at around $1000-1200. I've been told they sound better than JBL's 476Be which, when it was available, was around $3700. I haven't heard of anyone comparing them to TAD 4003's.

FWW, there are guys like Geddes who says he tested the TAD 2001 (the only 1" Be driver I know of) and said it provided nothing over the DE250.

Without a doubt, the BMS is a far better value and I wouldn't be surprised if it rivaled the Be diaphragms in performance.

The price for the Truextant Be diaphragms is approx $600 ea. I am not sure what the price of the Radian 950PB is, but I think that it is around $400 ea. if you were going to build a trio of speakers for your main LCR's then you would be looking at $1,000.00 times three for just the top end.

How much does the BMS-4592 or 4594 go for? One main reason that I can see for going with the Radians over the BMS is that you could start with just the Radian 950PB's for like $400 ea, (maybe less), and to keep the initial cost down wait a while to upgrade to the Truextant Be diaphragms.

I have heard that the Radian 950Pb is an awesome CD even without the Be diaphragm.

I think the 4594 in the group buy was about $500 and is already superior to the Radian. Whether it is better than the Radian with Truextent is unknown, likely quite close and ultimately debatable. The main disadvantage of the BMS is that it requires designing some sort of crossover (passive, DSP or passive/DSP hybrid).

Wow, I didn't realize that the 4594 was that cheap with the group buy. I wonder what the cost is for the 4592 w/the group buy? How does the 4592 compare to the 4594? Is one supperior to the other?

I believe it was the same price. They are fundamentally the same but with different exit sizes. The 4594 designating a 1.4" and 4592 designating a 2" exit. I personally see zero purpose to 2" exit compression drivers in modern systems to be honest (and especially with modern home systems). At most they should be used only as dedicated midranges. The only reason to use it is with a legacy horn IMO.

The Radian equivalent is actually the 951PB (1.4" version of 950PB which is 2") which they don't seem to list anywhere but I think US Speakers can source it.

hmmm...Did I get sent a different list? The price I saw was 50% more than that.

sigh....I was not told it was price minus %30...It would have changed my decision. It seemed odd that the price was no different than you could find on the web, but it wouldn't be the first time that a group price was not great....oh well...I guess it wan't meant to be.

Yeah, I just ended up asking Chop when he emailed me the list. Pretty good price. Depending on how urgent your needs are someone will likely end up selling their GB drivers so maybe you can still get some.

If we've got some interest in another month or two, I'd be up for starting another BMS buy for those who missed out on this one - if Jack is up for it of course.

Yeah it's all done, check the thread out for the group buy though...it has good info, and I think there will be another one in the next couple of months.

The woofers are supposed to show up today, so I guess I really need to get cracking on some enclosures.
How many of the TD15M drivers did you decide for each enclosure?

I'll give you one guess. Take the number of drivers you would think of as an overkill...................

and double it. biggrin.gif

Hope so. Matt and I are going to experiment a bit with the different configurations of the four woofers to see what will work best all around. I think we will be in good shape once it's all dialed in.

I think I am most excited about that...It's going to look untterly rediculous to see a full pallet of 15s knowing that they are all going in one room biggrin.gif
I was telling my wife she has to watch out for the delivery guy on Wed and that he's brining a pallet of speakers...an hour later find a note, kind of like the gamling line on the lottery machines and it says...Do you or someone you know have a problem with speakers??? If so, please call 1-800-dumba$$ for help today. biggrin.gif:D:D

It could be worse.... I used to order subwoofer drivers for the custom designs I'd build for local customers 50 - 100 pieces at a time to get the best pricing..... that used to raise a few eyebrows when I'd try to carry all those pallets of woofers in the house and/or stack them in the garage because there was no more room in the house... the neighbors looked at me a little funny smile.gif I'd usually go get them from the depot so I wouldn't have to wait on teh delivery trucks.... watching the reactions of me pull in with pallets stacked 5 feet above the cab of the truck was funny, too smile.gif
