Upgrade recommendations for my Harmony 688

I like the Harmony 688 remote. But the display seems to go out. So, I am looking for a replacement. I like the size/basic format of the 688.

What would be a natural upgrade/replacement? Harmony 600 or 650? I don't mind buying a discontinued product.

I noticed that the 600/650 only have 4 screen menu buttons vs. 6 of 688. Not sure if this is a big deal.

I prefer a remote with batteries - not rechargable modesl

The only difference between the 600 and 650 is the latter has a color screen instead of black and white. Both are only 5 device, far fewer than you had on your 688. But if you replace your remote in the 7.7 software, you'll get to keep all your old devices, even if you had more than 5. If you used sequences on your 688, you'll want to use the 7.7 software anyway, instead of the new myharmony.com website for programming.

If you like the 700 and need it's 1 to 3 additional devices, you can use regular batteries in it if you prefer. The rechargeables on the 700 are regular NiMH AA's and can be removed. But IMO it would be foolish not to use the rechargeables. Otherwise, you're just throwing money away on batteries.

The 600/650/700 still have 4 functions per screen just like your 688. The other 2 buttons below the screen act exactly like the top 2 buttons on your 688. So you're not losing anything.

I did not know that I can use my own AA's. I have Sanyo Eneloops (best ever) for the whole house. Prefer charged batteries in standby rather than plugging in a remote....

The 700 might be the choice for me.

Eneloops will be no problem in the 700. I'm a big fan of those myself. Of course they'll work fine in the 600 and 650 too.

Looking at the street prices seems like the 700 is double of the 650. Might go with the 650. The number of devices is fine for me as I do most through the HTPC

BTW. does the 650 still have a glow button?

None of them have a glow button. All have a motion switch and also glow with any key press. If you want to save a few more bucks, check out refurbs at tiger or newegg. They're like new in my experience. My last 600 refurb was around $30 and mint.
