Hello everyone,

Have just joined up today. Have landed here after a referal from another site. So firstly just wanted to say hello wink.gif

I have not had much time as yet to trwl through the many posts here but will find me way in good time.

I am hoping to find out more about building my own (budget) Mini ATX (htpc) suitable for connecting to my TV.

So hopefully ive posted in the correct Forum? And joined the correct site for more information on the subject.

Thank you.

I too am relatively new here, but i do know alot about PC hardware.

Can you please advise which software you want to run and if you require alot of storage in the pc or are using a NAS elsewhere on your network. Also do you require 1080p playback?

Thanks you for your repl wedge27,

I would hope to run Linux Ubuntu System if not then Win7 (i already have). I do not require a lot of storage in the system. I was perhaps thinking 60g hard drive or under. Mostly for the OS and music storage. I would like it to take external storage (usb drive) to load up movies and watch on TV which would connect via hdmi to TV. I would like it to be wifi to add to my home computers and be able to stream movies as well. 1080p would be good.

I would be hoping for min of 2x usb slots or if 4 usb then i could use a usb wifi network adapter if it was easier to do than add wifi by other means. One would be a receiver for my wireless touchpad/ keyboard. Not looking for anything to hi-tech but as small a case as possible to fit under tv. Does not need to have audio out or indeed in. I already have a speaker system for my tv wich can out the audio from the HDMI in.

Looking around i can see a few mini atx cases. Most have a front optical drive slot for cd/dvd. I do not need really need this either. I am a little stuck on motherboards at the moment. I will repost with some things i have seen.

Hope this gives a good idea and you can comment further.

Thankyou,

I think they take a slim odd drive?

These are a couple of budget end cases i have seen. Would like it to be as quiet as possible as well. Im unsure wich mother board and cpu but anything that could at least give me the USB ins and HDMI out. Storage could be 20g hdd and could install Linux Ubuntu.

Have saw this motherboard but dont know much about any motherboard tbh.

This one seems to have HDMI

Ok I priced out a mini-itx build for you, let me know what you think, I did not include a Optical drive or HDD/SSD as there are so many options, also the case is reasonably priced and comes with a PSU, Newegg reviews seem to rate it quite highly, if you dont like it then a small Lian Li case would also work with any PSU.

Well I tried to write a great post and include all the links but it failed due to my post count or something which was rather annoying.

Here is a screenshot of my shopping cart instead.

I did not include a optical drive or HDD/SSD as there are many options to choose from there and I am not sure of your criteria.
