Newbie needs help on great room ht

I have a 15x30 great room with the tv mounted on the 15' wall. The sofa is a room separator placed 12' in front of tv, with the kitchen/dining room taking up the remaining 18' of space behind the couch. I don't have a good spot for rear speakers so I am only looking for fronts, center,sub

I have it narrowed down to the following:

Energy 5.1 Take classic(not using rears)

Or

Sp-fs51 or 52 plus a c21 or 22 with a good sub

Or

Rti a3 with their center(forgot the name/number) and a good sub

Thoughts???

As far as a sub, I'm thinking of a bic f12 or energy s10.3

Would like to keep it under 600, prefer under 500. This does not include receiver. There is a set of the sp-fs51 on eBay for 125, or the fs52 on amazon for 125ea

Pioneer towers with matching or the Polk RTi A3's with a CSi A6 or CSi A4 center

Throw in Bic F12 and you will have a decent 3.1 speaker set

How much do you have for a receiver? Is that included in your $600 speaker budget?

No, the 600 is for speakers only. Not sure on budget for receiver as I'm going to have to save for a month or so for that.

You think I will get the same "bang for my buck" with the Polk bookshelfs as I would the pioneer floor standings? I hope so, as the room would look better with the fronts hanging on the wall instead of on the floor

Pioneer setup will cost 330.00 plus 187.00 for f12 sub for a total of 517.00

Polk setup will cost 500 plus 187.00 for f12 sub for a total of 687.00

Both are doable, but is the Polk that much better to warrant the extra money? Seems the biggest cost difference lies in the center channel (80.00 for pioneer and 200.00 for Polk)

I personally not a fan of the pioneers, which is why I have the Polks. The Poineers sound pretty dull and muted to me.

Some receiver to look at are the Denon AVR-1613 ($400) Onkyo TX-NR616

fwiw with that size room and budget you might also option to go with a 2.1 system for example pair the boston acoustics a360's at accessories4less $360 . these are a great bargin for their price ( white with black grills , imo look nice)) and a better sub like the klipsch rw-12d $300 on newegg. this in my opinion would give you better sound quality overall. then save up for the boston acoustics a225c center $150 at accessoriess4less.as for an avr look also at accessories4less they are an authorized dealer and have some nice bargins on manuf. refurbs in all price ranges and needs. my recommendation would be the denon avr1612 $200

Another option would be a pair of Def Tech SM 450s (300/pr) and the Klipsch 12 inch sub(300).
I own the def tech and they are outstanding speaker at that price. Drawback...if you decide later you want the def tech center later, it is expensive and hard to find!

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with the bookshelf instead of floorstanding. Does it make a difference wether I put them on stands or if I mount them on the wall (if on wall, they would have to be up high near ceiling and angled down towards couch)

If you are going to flush wall mount, you will need to make the speakers you by are not rear ported! The def tech I recommended are sealed, so these could be wall mounted!

He is a pic of the wall. My speaker placement options are to

1: mount on wall up high and angle down (on each side of fireplace)

2: set on speaker stands on each side of fireplace

3: set on fireplace (where candles and brass pot are) obviously this will put them even closer together than option 2

The tv will get hung about 6" higher than it currently is (angled down) so that the center channel can fit on the mantle right under tv

Is the 709 and denon1613 (both 400.00) worth almost double the cost of the denon1612 if I don't plan on upgrading any of this equipment? If so, would you pick the 709 or 1613 to pair with my setup?

I want to be able to run my speakers at their full potential, so I'm happy to buy whichever avr will do this BUT I don't want to spend extra money on an avr that won't gain me anything (sound wise) on my speaker setup in hopes that it will serve me well down the road if I upgrade speakers. This is a family room, not ht room, so I hope to set it up and leave it. (famous last words huh. Lol)

Well the Denon 1613 has some more features over the 1612 like the 1613 has apple air play ability and it can be connected to a network, unlike the 1612. The Onkyo 709 can be connected to your network as well.

I know the 709 has upscaling so if you have a non-HD source it will upscale it to HD not sure if the 1613 has it I know the 1612 doesn't have it.

It all comes down to the features you want.

If you got $400 to spend I like the 709. If you only got $200 go with something less
