WCBS-DT NYC FiOS.

They are actually mixing the music performances in DD 5.1.
I'm into the local music scene myself. Supporting the artists who are nice to me that I personally know. Not into the popular music which would be on the Grammys.

Hope you guys are enjoying yourselves smile.gif

^^^^^ yeah. Sounds pretty good so far here on OTA KPIX-DT, 1080i, SF Bay Area.

Time moves on. I recall this thread with hundreds of comments on video quality and audio mixes, critiquing the performances and lighting - looking for what worked in HD and what was an issue. Now it's old hat, came off flawlessly - though strobes still cause pixelation - stellar sound quality and a rock solid PQ.

I thought it was one of the best looking and sounding Grammys ever. The performances were excellent, and the speaches were brief.

The Grammy is less stuffy and arguably more entertaining than the Oscar, yet I care even less about it.

I mean, I care a little bit about the Oscar, even if it's only to gripe about how long and boring the show is and how bad the academy got it wrong, The Grammy? I don't even care that much.

When I turned on a new band on the scene was performing named "Fun." It was painfully obvious with all the audio improvements instituted they forgot the badly needed implementation of Autotune or at least the lead singer was so far off it could not compensate. Embarrassing. Of course the pathetically out-of-tune group went on to win at least two Grammies while I watched.

What! Fun. is fun. I enjoyed most of the show and thought the tribute to Levon Helm was exceptional, even though Mavis Staples tried a bit too hard to steal the show.

I suffered throught the entire thing, I did really enjoy Black Keys well deserved wins and their performance with Dr. John and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band biggrin.gif
the Bob Marley "tribute" was disappointing especially

Interesting that in the opening segment, L.L. Cool Jay's mike was popping badly. He had it way too close to his mouth.
It looked like a Sennheiser wireless, with the Neumann KMS head....those things have so many internal pop filters, they should never pop. I even noticed that one of the stars he was introducing, sitting in the audience, was mouthing "Pop, Pop, Pop" as the camera swung to her.
Later, it looked like they added a big, old-fashioned foam windscreen to his mike.

I loved the Carrie Underwood performance with the special effects on her dress, plus she belted out that emotional song like i didnt think she could, really great.

J-Lo looked good too, showing leg instead of the banned breasts!!

"That emotional song?" Which one? Her performance was a medley of her two latest hits, "Blown Away" and "Two Black Cadillacs." Which one was the most emotional to you? confused.gif

BoilerJim, just the way she sang the last song made it sound emotional. I really dont follow her career or songs as i am not a country fan, but this one just sounded emotional, whether it was or not. :-)

Point taken. For what it's worth, I'm a huge fan of all country music. smile.gif

I think Jennifer Nettles has the greatest voice in all of country music, and to be honest, i think its wasted. She has an incredible power voice, did you see the insanely fantastic version of YOU AND I she did together with Lady Gaga on the pre-grammy show last year? Its on YouTube if you havent seen it, geez is she awesome. I wish she come out with a cd/dvd of power songs.

I like a lot of Shania Twain's stuff too.

Also Johnny Cash. But in general, its far from my favorite genre.

I recorded that concert and bookmarked that song. I find myself going back to her rendition of "Hello" quite often to hear her fabulous voice. She is wonderful, especially on ballads.

I don’t know if you would be interested or even like this, but I saw her on PBS last year when she did a duet with Tony Bennett. It shows she is more than a one-style lady. I liked what Tony said to her at the end of their song. She said, “I’m such a tramp.” Tony said, “No, you only play a tramp.” Too many people don’t get that. I also think too many people are easily put off by her garb and provocative sexiness, and therefore tune her out, and don’t realize what a great voice she has.

Regardless of her musical talent, she is Madonna redux.

Watched the Awards last night.
Actually, just the Jack White performance.
As expected, he brought the house down.
When the audience got up to clap at the end, the camera cut away to Nicole Kidman telling her husband "that was awesome."

Aliens, yes i have seen that Gaga - Bennett song, so good. She is a much better talent than people give her credit for, because they look at the crazy stuff she does, yes like Madonna, but when not doing that stuff, she is excellant IMHO. Its amazing too how Tony has gotten so popular with younger people in his old age!! I will take Sinatra over him anyday, but i do like him.

Thanks for posting that though Aliens, i enjoyed seeing it again!!

Jennifer is the greatest… wow, such a bold statement. She’s good, really good (not a big fan of the twangy/funky inflections she does sometimes but Stay is amazing). If you don’t know of Alison Krauss you need to. Also, Martina McBride has such a pure voice – it’s like when an angel sings.

Anyone heard from Rhianna since the show? Chris Brown looked pretty mad when he didn’t win…
