The Kef's really have my interest. Is there a huge difference when you step up from 500 to 700 to 900?
fwiw, the shoes and purse where to keep the wife happy and i only personally heard a pair of q900 in a 2.0 music system and they where incredible.sorry cant help with if theres a huge difference between the kef Q line towers.maybe someone who has heard them could post their opinion, but imho only "your" ears could give you the correct answer .as been said before the best sounding speaker is the one "you" like not anyone else.i'm just giving some options to look at in that budget that i have heard and enjoyed. i've would of also listed the focals that you already mentioned but looks like gloss black is no go. the 716's are some nice sounding speakers

Well I think it is coming down to Focal Chorus 814V 716v or the Kef Q700. If I go with the Focal's I will just have to deal with the gloss finish.

If you're located in Michigan (or close by), like the KEF's and want/wouldn't mind Cherry......

I live in St. Louis and have a pair of Focal 806v and the 800 center if you are still interested in hearing how the line sounds before you order.

can't beat that

I love the Ascend Sierra-1 with the NrT tweeter, I honestly can't find any fault with them, they are way better than the Paradigm Studio 20s I almost bought and am very familiar with and I thought those speakers sounded amazing these are just a few noticable steps up for less $$$. With your price range I don't think you can do any better than these.

Thank you. That is a very kind offer. I heard the 716's friday evening and they are fantastic. It was a 2 channel system and was very balanced.

However, my quest is over for now. With the recent price drop of the Enery RC-70's, I grabbed a pair. Considering the price and I still have 2 RC-LCR's, it just seemed like the thing to do.

Congrats - since you already have an RC-LCR the RC-70 are a great choice.

Enjoy your listening ; )
