7.1 Speakers for new dedicated home theater

Ok, I have been finishing out half of my second floor and we just finished the framing. We are doing electrical for the next two weeks and then will be ready for hvac and our rough-in inspection. In short I am seeing progress.

Here's where I need your help. I plan on having seating for up to 12 in a room that will be 18.5'x30'. I will have an acoustically transparent projector screen in the front of the room mounted to a false wall made of essentially grille cloth. I need LCR recommendations as well as side channels and rear in ceiling speakers as my layout will prevent the dipole rears I hoped to use.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Well, since speakers can cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few hundred thousand dollars, a budget will be required. How much do you want to spend?

Good point. To give you an idea I will be pairing the speakers with an Elemental Designs a2-300 and one other (TBD) sub. I don't plan on spending $1000 per speaker and to be honest the LCRs can be ugly as hell as they won't be seen but they need to sound great! I like well defined sound with nothing too boomy as this is on my second floor above my living room. I really haven't set a budget for this but just to give you an idea I will probably hook it all up to an Integra AVR that will be a little under $1000 and I won't be using a separate amp in the beginning unless it's absolutely necessary but I will add one or two over time.

Since this is a large theater space and you won't have discrete amplification, I would take a look at the Klipsch Reference series. Their higher sensitivity gives you the theater dynamics even in a big space.

Never heard of Ascend but they seem to be good quality from a quick Google search.

Might actually be a good choice, their cabinets are nothing special but everyone that hears them says they are fantastic. I believe you can also demo their speakers.

I think they have a 30 day return policy, no questions asked...however, you pay the return shipping?

I'm very intrigued. Tough to beat that price point!

Anyone know about the Klipsch Icon W line?

Are they high quality? I might be able to get the WF-35 and the matching surrounds and center for a great price.
