Multiroom Audio for a newbuild with Iphone streaming.

Hi Folks,

I am in the process of a new build for a client.

I am doing all the Electrical wiring, plumbing, heating & Automation using Loxone.

I am looking for a quality multiroom audio system which I can integrate, the system must be capable of accepting iphone's & ipad's as sources and streaming music from them to any room sometimes simultaneously to different rooms.

I am not looking to specify source equipment as it changes rapidly, I need a barebones system which can accept any source the client may choose.

The only things in the rooms must be speaker in the ceilings, No Keypads, No Boxers. No wall plates.

I will be programming the Loxone system as the controller which runs on i Devices.

The main lounge will be 5.1 and this also needs to be a zone for the multiroom.

Sounds like you might be in over your head. Perhaps you should suggest to the client that they speak to someone with more experience in this arena?

In my opinion, bad idea to use iDevices to stream the music. Better solution is to stream from a NAS. If you're absolutely against wall plates and will never have them, then look at Sonos. It's the easiest to install and is easy to expand upon.

Ha In over my head - I hardly think so, I just don't keep bang up to the minute with Audio solutions / products.

One must always give the client what they wish, The system will have a NAS in anycase.

Wall plates are 100% out.

Sonos is soo bad its not even an option.

They don't change that frequently. You have a few options: Sonos, Russound, NuVo and HTD. Aside from that, you're most likely looking at piecing something together, at which point you lose some of the functionality that comes with a single manufacturer system. You really should consult with a WHA expert in your area.

With over 1,000,000 Zones of Sonos installed around the world – I’m sure a few folk would disagree biggrin.gif

Well that's easy, sonos is not multiroom audio is a wireless box in every room, if I wanted to install boxes in every room why would I not just buy a load of individual units!

Multiroom audio should not require equipment everywhere.

The boxes are wherever you place them. In my setup, they'll be in my A/V rack with a nice custom faceplate with the wires from the Connect Amps going to in-ceiling speakers in each zone.

And Ford or Vauxhall don't get the same high rankings that every Sonos unit gets from its customers.

And if you don't like Sonos, why not go with NuVo or Russound? Or better, consult an A/V specialist!

Sonos owners would tend to disagree with this response. You don't need a box in every room. Gramin gives a perfect example of how many setup their Sonos systems.

Sonos amps in a rack or stacked in a cabinet, for whole house audio. Their single room solutions are more widely known, but if you dig, you will figure it out.
