Is there a way to boot directly into XBMC main page

Thread Starter
I am looking for some ways to give my parents their own HTPC. I want to make it simple as possible as they are not the most tech savvy people and don't really have a need for internet and other "typical" computer needs.

Is there a way to have some type of HTPC or other device boot directly into the main XBMC page and then control with just a remote???

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, of course. Just make a shortcut to XNMC on you desktop and proceed to plonk it in your windows startup folder. The whole system will shut down if you press the 'off' button on your RC.

You can certainly do this with the Windows startup folder. If you want it as simple as possible, though, I strongly recommend you use OpenELEC. It's XBMC completely stripped of any operating system. It would be very hard for your parents to break, and software updates are done automatically.

XBMCLauncher is also a good tool (For Windows)

You can auto start XBMC or boot straight into XBMC (Changing the shell) this will bypass explorer, you won't see the desktop/explorer at all.

The basically makes a Windows HTPC look like OpenELEC but keep the benefits of Windows (Driver Support/ Protected BD Playback)

It you don't have Windows, I would also recommend OpenELEC, its simple and easy to use.
