The "Neowulf Theater" Budget Theater

So, like many folks, I have watched and drooled over a lot of Theater Rooms I have seen on here as well as houses that the wife and I toured. The problem lies is cost, and very little know how as far as wiring etc. But, the wife finally gave me the green light to turn out 12x14 office into a theater room and move the office to an unused bedroom. I had images of a nice movie theater in my house and she had some doubts. By the end of this, she was amazed at what we did and for the cost. I am posting this here more for those that "wish they could" but don't. This is by no means as epic as some of the theater builds I have seen. This is a budget, small theater room that fits 5 very comfortably and gets the job done. What job? The job of having a movie theater in your home.

So to start, Let me tell you the Hardware:

2. Projector: JVC RS46
3. Screen: Monoprice 120" Multi-Aspect
4. HTD Level 3 5.1 Speaker system
5. Impact Acoustics Infrared Remote Control Repeater Kit
6. Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-Ray Player
7. Sony PS3
8. Logitech Harmony Touch
9. Lutron IR Dimming Light Switch

Step 1: Remove the old bedroom and put the office in there:

Step 2: Paint the Theater Room

* I went with black on the viewing wall and ceiling and a flat suede grey on the other walls. (Can't believe the wife let me put black on the walls!)

Step 3: Pull the Carpet and HD came in and laid new carpet

Step 4: The wife went with me to HD and we got some black and red curtains to cover blacked out windows and "Black Out" Curtains for doorway.








Now it was time to get rid of the ceiling fan and put in the Lutron. Since I know nothing of being an electrician, I had a friend come out and do this for a 6 pack of beer and some pizza.





Step 5: Honest Install (a local company) came out and ran my wires for the speakers for me.






Step 6: Have HD cut the wood for a Riser and surprise the hell outta yourself by building it. Then have HD Come out and carpet it.

Step 7: Projector and Screen Arrive!





Step 8: Honest Install came back out and assembled the screen, and hung the projector.





Step 9. Put couch in for front row. Received 2 Fusion Escape from Roman for back row.








Step 10:Created a screensaver type movie for 5 min warm up before movies.


Step 11: Enjoy the new home theater!

Thanks for the compliment. It took me about 3 months (I am a bit impatient) to complete everything from movement of furniture till sitting in new chairs watching a movie.
