im looking for a pj around $500 for a room thats 16' long only has one window, would be used for netflix hulu xbox, want it to be at least 720p native. i have to say its been sevral years sence ive looked into projectors and im kind of disapointed in the progress in the low end projector market, basicly the prices and specs have not changed much in the last few years, i was kind of hoping i could get a 1080p dlp for 500 now lol

anyways

was comparing some models let me know if you guys have any better suggestions

ViewSonic PJD5523w

Acer® H5360

Acer X1320WH <- seems like newest model?

do most these models use the same chip? any info on if they suffer from the stuck mirror/pixel issue ive been reading about on some of these like the hd66 ?

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD ?

The LG LEDs look quite interesting as well.

Almost all PJ lines have "issues".

I am pretty sure there is 1080p viewsonice pro8200 that get close to your budget at times.

For "netflix hulu xbox" you loose a little bit of sharpness but not much else with 720p v 1080p.

Good luck.

It just wouldn;t be profitable to develop and market a projector for 300.. but 500 is still a great value over other display types. The benq 1070 and competition offers 1080p and other improvements, but not at your price.

Some 5360 have the bad pixel problem after a year or 2, some never.

I can't see the advantage of a 800 native or speakers for a HT projector.. you are only going to scale your screen once.

1320 seems to have (had?) a lot of issues according to amzn reviews.

I'm very happy with the 5360 as a travel projector and PC based 3D w/ dlp link. I like the brightness. The pixel fill is fine at 100", colors are very nice and the blacks decent. (DC3 i think) Yes, it's an older model, but the long thread here addresses all the issues.

For xbox and streaming video, I think you'll be happy. Whatever you decide, post a followup

basicly some friends moved out of my house now i have both my living rooms, so i was going to put my current 1080p 120hz 42" lcd up stairs and get somthing newer and bigger for my downstairs, so im on the fence between like a 46-47" 1080p 120hz lcd, or for the same price roughly, a projector

i really dont watch enough tv (or have the budget for lol) somthing bigger and better like a 1080p pj or large lcd

judging by the current line ups of projectors, is there about to be alot of new models introduced soon? and maybe a drop in price on some of these 720p few yrs old models?

I have owned two H5360 projectors. After 650 hours (just outside of warranty) the first one developed a problem on the main board with the "fan control switch". Essentially, it was bricked, and the only way to fix it would be to buy a new main board. Obviously, prohibitively expensive.
The second one developed four stuck pixels at around 1500 hours, and then that same problem as the other one at 1550 hours.
IF IF IF you buy the H5360, I cannot recommend the extended warranty enough. Personally, I will not be purchasing another, and I will try very hard to stay away from Acer projectors in general.
I know lots of people haven't had problems with that PJ, but it isn't worth the risk to me. And Acer tech support is a nightmare to deal with.

actually looking into the LG led projectors now (thanks kmannth), besides the low lumen compared to non-led models i think i might have to look into these more. i like the lamp life and size and low power consumption. my electric bills are high enough lol not that a couple hundred watts is going to make a huge difference its still nice to know if i leave it on it doesnt really matter.

unfortuneatly they dont seem to be in stock many places, seems the pb61u is hard to find the pa70g seems a little more available but the prices seem to stay near msrp because of that

anyone have any opinions on the optoma lm300 ?

I am in the same boat but was also looking at the Epson 705 or 710. I just saw the LED LGs now and not too sure what to do. I am very interested to hear what you do!
