Quick Fallout 3 question for somebody that has finished the main quest....

POSSIBLE SPOILERS, DON'T READ IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING FALLOUT 3

Ok, just a real quick question about how far I might be in on the "main" quest. I've been trying to kinda avoid going too far down the main quest path, and instead focusing on tons of side quests. However, I jumped back onto the main quest for a bit, and I'm at a certain point, where I'm trying to figure out if this is the beginning of the end, in regards to the main quest. Maybe I've still got a ton more stuff to do before it's over, but I'm just trying to see if I'm nearing an end point.

Ok. so, I went to this place where there were these pods, and people were living in a simulated world. My dad was there as the dog. I got out of the simulated world, and met my dad for the first time since he left the vault. He said that he has to go back to Rivet City, and to the laboratory there, and that maybe he can finish project purity or whatever. He wants me to come with him to Rivet City. At first, I agreed, and started following him to Rivet City. Along the way, we kept getting attacked by various bad guys and animals, and at a certain point, I started thinking that there is something different about this, that's making me think I'm nearing the end of the main quest.

I don't really want to finish the game right now, I have a ton more side quests to do first, and I haven't even touched the DLC yet.

For those that know the part of the game that I'm in (heading back to Rivet City with my dad to the laboratory), am I nearing the end of the main quest ?

Please, try to avoid any spoilers in your answer if possible. Thanks..

That's a bit past the half way point on the main story line. If you have the Broken Steel DLC installed you continue past the end of the main story line and if I'm remembering correctly can go back for sidequests and the other DLC.

So, I still have a long way to go on the main quest ? that's good to hear. I just wasn't sure how far along I was on that pathway.

You've got lots left to do before the game is over. The challenge will also increase significantly, IIRC.

Great game, I think I had over 400 hours total (two playthroughs) getting all the achievements, playing all the DLC, finding all the locations, all the special items, every secret, etc. It was great fun. My second playthrough I did the Anchorage mission ASAP to get the stealth suit and special items and used the glitch to use them for the remainder of the game. I loved playing stealth and crouched everywhere I went to remain invisible. It took a long time to cross the wastelands while crouched! LOL

If you really enjoy cheating your way through a game, sure, but I don't see the point because you're already way overpowered in the game after the halfway point anyway. Pretty much like any other Bethesda game.

I don't think I've ever cheated my way through a game on the first playthrough unless it was really boring or already too easy. It can be a lot of fun depending on the exploit though. Low gravity, increased force of weapons, unlimited ammo, etc. can make interactions a lot more entertaining to watch. LOL driving around Liberty City in a Lambo with the mass of a tank is hysterical! Other cheats, like difficulty mods or cheats that give enemies more powerful weapons can also be fun and can balance games like this where you get too OP. Cheating in multiplayer is 100% bad form unless it's a known modded server or something that encourages it (L4D turbo), but hacking up single player games can be really fun. smile.gif

I love Fallout 3 more than maybe any other game of this generation. (Crackdown and Bioshock also deserve props)

But, the game does have some real problems. To me, the biggest single problem is that it basically ends up being way too easy to just headshot fools at close range with the Combat Shotgon. Right now, I'm level 16, and I'm really close to level 17. My lockpick skill is at 100, and my science skill is at 100. Unfortunately, earlier in the game I locked tons of computer terminals by entering the wrong password too many times and not backing out. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. My other problem, is that I've only got a couple of lockpicks left. (like only 4).

I have to be level 18, with a 7 or 8 in Intelligence, to get the Computer Whiz perk, which will allow me to unlock the locked terminals. Then I'll be able to go back to the Paradise Falls department store and get into that computer and finish that quest.

I love this game....
