Looking to mix up my gaming

Basically all I have really played have been the annual COD releases and Skyrim and I'm looking to mix it up a bit. Looking for suggestions from the group out there. I was thinking of going back and picking up Dead Space 1 since I heard good things about it. Or maybe Borderlands 2. I'm open to any and all suggestions for something to get out of the gaming rut.

Far Cry 3 and Dishonored would be my first 2 recommendations.

You mentioned COD as getting old so I would also suggest Battlefield 3 since it has a totally different feel from COD.

Iron Brigade

It's my go to when Blops 2 is pissing me off. A single to 4 man team mech based tower defense game. The survival modes require you to get the Martian bear DLC.

If you like achievements, the game has 250 points of them

Some issues but it is a blast to play. Double Fine release of MS IP. MS won't let them do an updates map pack anymore. still worth it.

If you're really looking for a change of pace, portal 2 is one of my favorite games of all time.

I highly recommend the Dead Space and Bioshock series. As mentioned above, Portal 2 is great as well. If you can find it, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is worth a play through. I'm up to 70 hours and still have yet to finish the game. Really good game and too bad the studio has folded. If you really want to go off the board Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed is really fun too.

Check out this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1457067/best-things-of-this-gen

This is how I would play them:

1. Batman: AA
2. Fallout 3
3. Halo: Reach
4. Dead Space
5. Portal 2

FWIW, the only reason that Fallout 3 isn't on the top of the list is that you have played Skyrim...

Thanks, I almost bought Kingdoms of Amular when it came out but with Skyrim being so close in release date I knew I wouldn't have time for both. Maybe I'll give Batman:AA a try, it looks like something totally different.

Do you enjoy sports games at all? FIFA 13 is very addicting. It's the only other thing I play besides BLOPS II.

I enjoyed Kingdoms of Amalur I actually liked it more than Skyrim.

Dead Space is a great series.

Amalur is very good also.

OP, do you only have a 360 or do you also have a PS3?

That Castlevania Lords of Shadow was really great and Vanquish.

I have both. The vast majority of my gaming has been on the 360 because I prefer the controller and XBox live but I have played a game or 2 on the PS3.

Looking at my library of Xbox 360 games that I have played and still own....

Any of the Dead Space games would be great choices. Dead Space 1 in particular is a classic survival/horror game that always feels like a cross between Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing to me.

Dishonored is another strong single player adventure where your choices really affect the game world and ending.

Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City are probably two of the strongest comic-book inspired games out there.

I actually preferred Bioshock 2 to the original as it had a better story, the underwater setting factored into the gameplay, and the ending was more satisfying (the original Bioshock has one of the worst endings of this generation).

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is another very good action/platforming hybrid with a very well presented story and some of the best voice acting in a game this generation.

Fallout 3 is a great RPG with strong action elements and if you enjoyed Oblivion's style of gameplay but want to experience something similar in a post-apocalyptic environment, this may be a good choice.

Any of the Forza Motorsport or Project Gotham Racing games would be good options if you're looking for a racing game - lots of cars (and motorcylces in PGR4) and varied tracks and locations.

Nearly all of the above games can be had for under $20 each new and that that price I'd say they're just about all keepers.

Just looked at my collection of games and realized I have PGR4 and barely played it at all. I think I'll dust that off and give it a try for a little while.

I loved PGR4.

Lot of good suggestions in the thread! I would also recommend Borderlands 2. It is probably the most addictive game I've played this generation. I have a huge backlog of games that just keeps getting bigger because I can't seem to tear myself away from Borderlands!

I was the same as you for ages, all I played was COD. But I decided to get a few new games and they were actually great. One I would definitely recommend is Rage. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fallout 3&4 were great also smile.gif

I think you might enjoy Max Payne 3. I did.
