Sound coming out of TV speakers

Im sure this is an easy fix but anyway I will ask. Ok I have 5.1 setup with a receiver and everthing go's through the receiver for sound and video. Now I am able to watch blu rays and cable through my speakers. I just set up netflix on my smart tv. Im getting the video with netflix but the sound will only come out my tv speakers. do i need another hdmi and go from the tv to my receiver. I have a sony hx820. Thanks.

you will have to run some sort of audio cable from the TV to the receiver unless your TV and receiver are compatible with Hdmi audio return (arc)

I have a pioneer elite vsx- 21 and I don't think it has audio return. So what do I use an optical cable. Thanks.

In your TV setup menu, you have to turn off the TV speakers.

yeah an optical cable will work, and i believe with sony you will have to turn off your TV speakers.
