AE Group buy 2013! - Page 2

I need to use up some of the SEOS-12 plastic units I bought and at least make a dent in the storage bins full of crossover parts, ports, binding posts, etc. I've been holding onto for years and taking up tons of space in my garage and attic.

Given how little we've used the small theater room upstairs in the past 10 months (the only time we get to watch movies these days is after the little guy goes down at night and the small theater room is virtually right next to his nursery. So we watch on another floor well away from his space), I'm not opposed to reducing the $$$ expended in that room. A future project that I'm considering is building out BMS 4550 1" CD equipped SEOS-12 speakers for LCR (and maybe even surrounds) and replace the existing speakers in there... If that is going to be his playroom eventually where he watches all his kid's movies, it's not really necessary to have $12K+ tied up in the front speakers, not to mention the pre-pro and other electronics, etc. it doesn't have to be totally high end in there for kid movie watching.... instead, some duratex covered boxes for durability against his Tonka trucks bashing into them holds some real appeal...

the one limitation in this room is on center channel height. So while a pair of SEOS-12 equipped L/R speakers with BMS 4550 and AE TD15Ms is fine, I'd need to use something like the TD6 in pairs or quads for the center channel to have the box fit on the low rise equipment rack under the screen (with the soffit bass traps I built into the room, I can't raise the screen any higher).

So I'm curious if TD6 is included as well....

then to decide if 4550/SEOS12 over dual TD6M for the efficiency or TD6H for lower extension when it comes to the center channel and possibly surrounds. I like running as low as possible on main speakers if it can be helped and only crossing to sub if absolutely have to and as low as possible. I likely won't get to this project for quite some time... so given no money up front, it might be worth me placing an order now and then it won't matter at all if/when the AE woofers take a while to get made....

Also, it would be great with the T/S for TD6-series, can't seem to find them anywhere.

I would really be curious about this as well. TD6 and Seos would make for a great wide and height channel in my setup.

If you go to the AE homepage and click on the TD6 image at the bottom it takes you to the product info thread on the AE forum. Specs and measurements can be found in that thread.

Klippel on the TD6H

There seem to be quite some discrepancy between measured and stated T/S?
those are two different drivers. the -m is different from the -h series of drivers.

I know that, I compared the Klippel test of TD6H to the stated T/S of the TD6H.

The parameters I posted were from the first prototype. I have never actually published a set of parameters yet. One of the things I hope to accomplish in the next year is to get full measurements and data sheets for all drivers. This is a very time consuming thing to do and one that is difficult to train anyone else to do so it has been on the back burner for some time.

I just remeasured some parameters quickly with the WT3 for comparison sake.

TD6H-8 (13-0216 sample)
Fs: 61.8hz
Qms: 3.3
Vas: 7.9L
Cms: .35
Rms: 2.23kg/s
Sd: 126.1
Qes: .3
Re: 6.1ohm
Le: .15mH
Z: 8ohm
Bl: 12.18
Pe: 100w
Qts: .275
1W SPL: 89.9dB

This is much closer in line with their parameters

John

For those of us with no patience, can I just pay retail and have him start building them already? biggrin.gif

You'd still have to wait for them about a month to ship anyway, so might as well jump on with a discount.

I just had a pair of td15m shipped out much quicker than that.

2-4 weeks is the standard build/test time for them to ship out. Since the GB ends in a few weeks anyway, unless you were in a hurry the extra savings is worth it.

Thank you for clarification. I think you should remove the prototype T/S and try to get the correct T/S up on your site to avoid future misunderstandings, considering they differ quite a bit.

The question still stands though, are the TD6 included in the group buy and if so at what price?

I agree. I am about the most impatient guy you could ever meet, but the discounts on these and the BMS gear are what got me convinced to place my orders and do a build. They BMS stuff and my seos24s won't be here for at least a few weeks anyway, so waiting for the AEs is a non issue. I have been fighting the urge to build enclosures before it all gets here though biggrin.gif

Subd. Just out of curiosity.

Have all the pieces and parts from the last GB been shipped yet?

They should be, or are very close.

I would consider this a clean slate. I have 2 td12xs on order prior to the group buy that should ship early march (ordered early Feb), and 2 on the group buy for the discount and pre price increase. If anyone is thinking of using AE woofers, to me now is the time to jump in. The more units sold helps everyone.

The extra 2 will either end up in my towers, or as some crazy surrounds. If I think about it, if the 100 unit price is met, it almost puts me in line with what the Zephyr kit would cost that I was looking at, but with a better woofer for only a little more.

+1, I think we will get close to that 100pc mark and it does make the cost seem hard to pass up.

From what John has told me, this week should be when the last of any existing orders are completed.

Any word on TD6 pricing for this group buy?
So I've already been invoiced for the drivers I'm securing through the group buy. They were invoiced at the 50-99 quantity pricing.

Just curious if that's how it's gonna be so that they get the first shipped out the door exactly when the group buy ends? It wasn't immediately clear to me via the emailed invoices that that was what the plan was, but I'm fine with it if so.

Same here. Already a nice discount over my previous order.

Bwaslo also posted a passive crossover for the TD15M and SEOS15 over at Eric's site if anyone is interested in building with those.
