AE Group buy 2013! - Page 3

As stated in the beginning, the old group buy woofers are almost completed. That is what we are working on now daily. About half of the remaining woofers have been invoiced for the final balance and are awaiting payment so they can be shipped. The others are in progress right now and will all be completed before the new orders start being built.

I should clarify that we stared by invoicing the first 20 woofers yesterday. There will be a 3 week lead time from payment to shipping to allow time for the machining work and assembly. I'll post up some pictures throughout the process so people can see things actually being built. I ordered up steel for the first 50 woofers today which will arrive tomorrow. Machining will begin right away on those parts. As the machining is done we ship the steel off to be zinc plated. It usually comes back within 3-5 days and we can be ready to start assembling the drivers. Sending the first invoices now puts things on a good timeline allowing us to transition right into the new group buy woofers to begin shipping 3 weeks from now . Next week will invoice for the next 20 woofers in the queue, to be shipped 3 weeks from when those payments are made. We will continue this schedule until all the woofers are invoiced and shipped.

Here is the current list I was provided a few days ago. there may be others since then but Chop has not passed the others on to me yet. I will get this up on my forum so I can keep better track of it, but here is how things currently sit based on the information I was given.

The woofers were invoiced at the 50pc price break. With the quantity being in the 30's I expect the 50pc point to be surpassed. For now woofers are expected to be in the 50-99pc price range. With the current quantity that is the best estimation I can give. I didn't want to hold off until the end of the group buy when we can start delivering woofers sooner by invoicing now. If the quantity does go over 100 I will reimburse the difference to those who paid the 50pc price.

Regular pricing on the TD6M is $199. Pricing breaks are as follows:
4pcs they would be $185, 10pcs $176, 25pcs $167, 50pcs $158, 100pcs $150

Whooaaa...Another AE group buy. Very tempted.

I didn't go with the GB, but I ordered 4 drivers about 2 mo's ago, plus or minus and got them yesterday, so I'd say they are catching up.

Have it reached 50 yet?

invoice received and paid... it's on! 14 pieces shipping in a few weeks *if delivery schedule holds, of course*...............................................

so I went from waiting around to get started on one project (big horn project), to now doing 4+ builds:

1) Zephyr build with stock and upgraded crossovers so buddy I'm building them for can compare sonics and see which one works best for him. Custom 1.5" Double layer BB box all around with some additional resonance dampening techniques beyond the crazy amount of bracing already planned. I'm just wiring crossovers and hooking everything up on this one.... cabinets are being made by my cabinet guys.
2) Wayne Parham 3Pi speakers with the upgraded drivers (DE250/AE TD12S from this group buy). Again, crazy box beyond Wayne's plans (with his encouragement) and upgraded crossovers. It'll be an interesting comparison with the Zephyr above. Said buddy went a little nuts and wanted to hear the two designs in his room with his electronics to see which one he liked better.... again, I'll just be directing cabinet guys on how the boxes are made and then wiring the crossovers and doing final hookup on these.
3) my big horn project with SEOS24, Iwata300, AE TD15M & TD15H, JBL 2446 & 2447 with beryllium Truextant diaphragms, BMS 4592ND & 4595ND - multiple combinations of builds here and weeding out which combo "wins", or if none of them win and I lose all of them and I just run the TD15Hs as subs with EQ to mate up with Harbeth speakers that were in that room to begin with.... given that crossover between woofer and horn will likely be in the 500Hz range or lower (doing passive on BMS coaxial CD), I'm looking at active crossover here initially and likely putting in the high end trinnov unit to try and compare against DEQx or equivalent with external D/A stages possible.
4) theater speaker system with BMS 4550 on SEOS12 plastic over top of dual AE TD6H woofers for LCR. They'll be wall mounted and angled to the seating to get them up and out of the way of a certain 10 month old who likes to beat on my expensive speakers with his toys. I'll have to fabricate my own boxes for those given the projects I've given my cabinet guys with the three cabinet builds above. BMS 4550 on EOS6 or EOS8 over top of a single TD6M for surrounds. I'll likely beef up a set of the pre-fab PE cabinets in gloss black for those as they are cheap and I'm not as concerned with the surrounds as far as overbuilt boxes are concerned. Those will likely be my first measurement and design crossovers as the boxes will be done sooner (given they are pre-fab) than the others that I'm waiting on...

lots of AE driver combo speakers to build soon.... and a few others to compare to the AE driver combo speakers... should be fun....

That sounds awesome. I can never get the money/time graph to meet up to do multiple builds like that. I either have too much money and not enough time, or too much time and not enough money.

the small theater build will take the longest since it will be me making the boxes... or it will wait until the others are done so the boxes can get on the schedule for the cabinet guys when they finish up the current projects.... no real rush on that build anyways given that we haven't watched a movie in that room in 10+ months given that it is nearly beside his nursery. The biggest thing will be getting the gear in there now sold so it can be converted into a dual use room as his playroom as well... it's already a large L-shaped room where he's got toy setup in one half of the L... this just protects the theater side that has gear down low, accessible, with expensive floorstanders sitting out and within reach of tonka trucks smashing into them..... by making it a full babyproof playroom/tv watching setup, that gives us options for outlets for his playtime when it's not nice enough outside so he isn't terrorizing the nicer living room stuff downstairs..... and it will be a super cool setup for watching Finding Nemo, Cars, etc. in the not too distant future when TV is allowed and he wants to watch the same videos over and over and over again....... gotta start him early on the audio obsession by giving him his own cool theater setup

I just added 4 TD18 to the list That will go with my B&C +TD12 build that I just finished.
