Questions about "suggested box size" according to Bass Box Pro and the Driver Manufacturer...

I am seriously considering building a subwoofer using a JL Audio sub (or two). I see that JL has suggested box size for their subs in their website.... But when I punch in the speaker paramters in Bass Box Pro, the suggested cabinet sizes are way different. For example, the JL12W3v3-4 parameters from JL suggest a box that is 1.75 cu. ft. but bass box pro suggests a volume of 3.09 cubic ft from the TS parameters for a vented enclosure. On the other hand, for a sealed enclosure, JL suggest 1.125 cu. ft and Bass Box suggest a close 1.17 cu. ft. box which is close enough to be negligible.

Which parameters should I follow and why the differences?

Box programs typically default to a maximally flat alignment. smile.gif
Manufacturers typically default to the smallest box that will work at all. mad.gif

"Manufacturers typically default to the smallest box that will work at all."

yeah, that's pretty much it...but in their defense, many of them are going in cars which is different from subs designed for theaters.
