5.1 speakers in a 7.5 ft x 8.5 ft room?

My room has a 3.1 speaker system so far, with the speakers placed near one wall, and it sounds good. But I would like to have some sound coming from the opposite wall (8.5 feet away). Would it be ok to place to more speakers on that opposite wall? Is my room too small and the extra 2 speakers would actually make the overall sound quality worse? I need opinions before I try because my only option is to place them in-wall if I do.

If your room a closed off 7.5 x 8.5 ?

What are the speakers and AVR you currently have?

I personally can not think of any issues right now must its hard to envision your room with the way you described it.

The door is left open for better ventilation. I have a 5.1 Yahama receiver, and using 3 bookshelf Polk Audio speakers right now. I just want sound coming from the other wall now. This is my third "audio room" in my home, hence the small room.

You should be fine adding surrounds "to get audio from other wall" as you phrase it. In every day terms you are looking for surround speakers.

Add surrounds and properly calibrate them to your receiver and you should be perfect with no audio issues. I assume your receiver has microphone to calibrate your speakers to the room

I know I want surrounds. The question is whether 5 speakers is too much for such a small room. Whether the sound wave interferences will add more problems than actually helping.

But the responses so far seem to suggest that 5 speakers in such a small room should be fine.

Since you have two other systems why not bring two of the speakers in the small room and see how it works with 5.1.

I don't think there will be a problem.

Heya,

It will be fine. The waves are not powerful enough to cause a big problem, and it's not like you have subwoofers facing each other. A few surrounds/sattelites in a room facing each other is fine. Even in a small room.

A bunch of Monitor 40's or Monitor 30's for example would be great and inexpensive. Assuming you already have something like that, as that would keep the tone matched.

Very best,
