VGA cable soldering

Thread Starter
Hey All,

I recently was given the task of creating some VGA cables from scratch with West Penn 5CRGB cable and normal DB15-HD solder type connectors, but for the life of me I cannot get the cables to work, though I have tested continuity, The cable has 5 coaxial cables inside.

I am doing the following:
1 - Red
2- Green
3 - Blue
4- nothing
5- Hsync GND
6- Red GND
7 - Green GND
8 - Blue GND
9 - nothing
10 - Vsync GND
11 - nothing
12 - nothing
13- Hsync
14- Vsync
15 - nothing

Any ideas? Can I combine grounds? What about pins 4,11,12,15?

Thanks!

Probably a lot easier to just terminate the coax cables with BNC connectors and use a BNC-to-VGA adapter:

Do that at both ends and you're done. (Check gender on the connectors)

Did you test for shorts? Soldering high density d-subs is not the easiest thing if you haven't been doing it for a while. Shorts are the most common problem.

What are you connecting with the cable?

Is there a reason you chose that particular cable instead of the usual VGA cable?
