Yes, yet another one of these threads....
I have been reading this forum until I can't think straight and recently started purchasing the various components of a new 5.1 system to set up alongside a new Vizio 60" LCD.
So far I've pulled the trigger on a Yamaha RX-673 for $400 and the Klipsch RW-12D off Newegg for $299.
Now I need the remaining 5 speakers.
The room is 14x22x8 with the TV on the 14 ft wall. The couch is about 9-10 feet from the TV and sort of divides the room. Placement of the surrounds is a little problematic as the left wall is much closer to the couch than the right wall and there is only around 2 ft between the couch and wall on that side. I currently have a cheap RCA HTIB and just placed the surrounds on a table directly behind the couch.
I know this is not ideal and will probably try to find a better position with the new speakers.
My remaining budget for 2 front, 1 center, and 2 surrounds is between $800 and $1200. $1200 is a pretty big stretch so it would have to be worth it.
The baseline I've thought about is the Pioneer setup like so:
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SP-BS22-LR-Designed-Bookshelf-Loudspeakers/dp/B008NCD2LG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1360819202&sr=8-2&keywords=BS52-B

The Pioneer setup would come out to less than $500. And that includes free shipping. I've heard very good things about these speakers
Now I can afford a little more than that. I would be very happy to go $800 or even $1000 IF it would be a definite improvement in sound quality and esthetics.
I was fairly convinced that towers would be the preferred front choice but am not certain anymore. I've read some very good things about the Cambridge Audio S30's for example.
I also considered horns for awhile and was looking at the Acoustech PL-76 and 89's.
Downsides I've seen to the Pioneers are the 6 ohm impedance. I'm not certain how much this or the lower efficiency of these would affect me to tell the truth, but I was seriously set on higher efficiency for awhile. I'm also concerned about rear ports as I don't know if I'd have much more than 1 foot between the wall and the speaker.
Anyway, if anyone is still reading and you have suggestions in my price range that would be a definite step up from the Pioneer I would love to hear them.I hope to pull the trigger on something very soon as I already have the 673 and the sub should show up by Friday.
btw: forgot to mention the system will be 50/50 music and movies. What I really want is the best soundstage I can afford for music.
