So like many others I have been coming to this forum for a few years but have never posted anything, may be intimidation due to the incredible builds posted, or just nerves about negative feedback, but whatever it is, I've finally gotten around to it. My first home included a partially finished and outdated walkout basement, complete with wood paneling and old work benches. Part of the reason for buying this home was to redo the basement and make it my own space. Although I did take progress photos, they are not in as much detail as some take.
I suppose my reason for posting is to get feedback as to what I could do differently next time, next house, next truly dedicated HT build.
After the wood paneling was ripped out.
Stairs headed down.
The other half of the room ripped down to the studs.
Soffits being built for accent lighting and recessed lighting cans.
Wainscoting and LED tread lighting being installed on the stairs.
Drywall going up over a period of a few days, and plywood for the TV mount faux rock panel setting. The lighting was also set up for 4 switches. Accent light switch, wall sconces, a track light strip, and the recessed cans on a dimmable remote.
Next was the taping and mudding, another first for me. This was a process I soon came to dread and caused a multiple month hiatus from any production on this project. Next time, I will hire someone to plaster.
Came to the decision that the vacant space in the back of the room would be best suited with a bathroom. Instead of chipping away at the foundation it was decided to install an up-flush system which has worked out quite well.
Leveling out the floor for an engineered hardwood floor and tile at the back entrance.
Putting down the breathable underlayment for the hardwood.
After the hardwood sections went down.
