Shrinking the image to the size of a sheet of paper

Hey everyone!

I have a BenQ W1060 that I'm trying to use to "draw" on a piece of paper. This is my final design project for uni.

The projector is under a transparent table and projects from below to a standard sized Legal (A4) paper. The paper is fixed to the table surface.

Users are suppose to sit down at the table and draw on the paper in collaboration with the computer that draws on the paper too using the projector. The result should be an interesting augmented reality setup

The problem is the image projected by the BenQ W1060 is too big and the throw distance is too short for proper focusing. What kind of lens do I need to make it focus and shrink the projector output to the piece of paper?

I have talked with a medical lens lab and they can cut any custom lens for me up to 65mm in size. Other than that I've seen some people modify the throw of their projectors by disassembling them but I don't want to do that to my projector. It was expensive and it's still under warranty.

Picture in picture or a software solution won't work because:
a) I need the fullHD resolution to simulate handwriting on the piece of paper
b) I need the full brightness of the projector
c) I can't focus that close anyway so I'll need a special lens

You are blazing a new trail. I have a Dell MP3400 I use for art work, and it has to be 32" from the table to be in focus and image size is bigger than a piece of paper. If I need to make the image smaller I adjust the size of the image file if I can not get it small enough, which you say won't work..
Good luck and keep me posted on your custom lens.

I've tried a few things since posting. A magnifying glass works well but the edges get frayed.
