Integrated Amplifier 1000 Watts - Can I use this to drive my front two Speakers?

Technical Pro Integrated Amplifier 1000 Watts USB SD Inputs

This is on special today very cheap... And I claim 10381% ignorance on Amps, Pre-Amps Pre/Pro...I just dont understand this stuff....

If I can use this to drive my front two speakers though ...I have an 818 Onkyo with Pre-Outs which I think means I can use an Amp first ..then connect it to the Onkyo? That means I can drive the front two channels with this and have tons of power for the rest of my 5.1 system driven from my Onkyo?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Only connect an amp back to the ONkyo if you want to destroy the Onkyo. You would go from preouts of the Onkyo to the inputs of the integrated, then from the integrated's speaker outputs to the speakers.

Why do you want to add this amp? The Onkyo's amps will each be exactly the same. Using an outboard amp may be helpful in situations where you are haring distortion during very loud passages when all channels are equally loud. The problem typical receivers face is that they cannot output their full rated power to all channels at once without undue distortion. This is only an issue if you ever need to do so. For many of us, we never use the full rated power of our receivers' amps for even one channel because our speakers are reasonbaly efficient, we aren't sitting a hundred feet away and we don't listen at reference levels. Quite literally, in my normal listening at -15 dB from reference, I'm not using 50 watts even for the loudest parts of the movie in any channel.

MOreover, while games may be different, there seems (I think) to be general agreement that movies never hit all channels equally hard. If the surround channels are one notch lower, audibly, that's minus 3 dB from the mains, and uses only half as much power as it would take to be 3 dB louder.

SO for many of us, added power is not needed.

Note it's 1000 watts peak power, not RMS. Rating things that way has always been a big red flag, indicating that audio quality is likely to be inadequate. The absurdly low price is another indicator.

This amp's ratings are not to be taken at face value. It is highly unlikely that it is any sort of an upgrade over the front channels of the Onkyo 818. The 1000 watt power rating is "peak power" which is about as reliable as a Hollywood starlet's vital statistics. The $50 price tag says more, and the 6 pound weight finishes the story. It might have 20 wpc on the best day of its life, tail wind and falling off a cliff.

Got ya..ill pass then. My speakers are only 88 db sensitive...so tad worried that with 5.1 I will not drive them great.
