Next Generation A B setting question

I've used a nextgen extender to control my receiver for years. Works great. I recently got new cable service and I can use the remote to control my audio level on my receiver and the cable box channels etc. without the nextgen.

But, when I close my cabinet and have the next get set to A I can control my cable box, but, not my reveiver. When I have nextgen set to B, I can control my receiver, but, not my cable box. What basic concept am I not understanding here? Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe those settings are for the IR frequency used - you'll see mention of "dual band IR" and newer cable boxes. I suspect the A/B switch is selecting which of the frequencies to use on the output.

If you're just using the NextGen to get through a cabinet in the same room - you might be able to switch to a simple IR repeater with dual-band support:

Thanks Jeff. I'll give it a try and let you know how it works.

Another option would be to purchase another NextGen receiver and set one to A and one to B.
