Costco plasmas?

We are looking at a new TV for our living room. I'd like a larger one but don't want to sacrifice picture quality. Are the low end ones from Costco comparable to our older mid level samsung? Or is led better at this price range? In the store (I know it's bright) the led looked like it had better brightness and black levels. Our current TV is a 42" samsung plasma. (HPT4264) It has been a great TV with no problems.

Costco has a samsung pn51e535, a Panasonic p55ut50,and a lg 60pa5500. All about $100 apart. I think 55 is probably the sweet spot in our living room. Smart TV is not really a necessity, since we have dish and don't have Netflix or anything like that.

What do you guys think?

Of those sets - the Pan 55UT50 would be my personal choice.

Still, the Samsung has had some nice reviews, and while the LG probably lags behind the other two in terms of overall PQ, it does have the Largest Screen... smile.gif

What is your viewing distance?

And what is your relative percentages of viewing material?
(Blue Ray vs Other "HD" Material vs SD Material....)

The closer you sit, and the higher your % of Non-Blue-Rays, the more I would consider a smaller panel.

At the same time, the farther away you sit, the more attractive the 60" panel becomes....

There are other considerations to a buying decision, of course, that this is a good place to start.

Thanks for the response. We sit between 10 and 15 feet away, sometimes closer. We do not own a blueray player however we are watching HD all the time (dish). There is a large windows, but the TV is on the south wall and the Window is facing east, so there is never any direct sunlight. We do have some ceiling lights, but I'm hoping to get a mount I can angle a little to help with that.

Beyond 10 ft, would definitely look at a 55" to 60" panel.

At 12ft or less, would opt for the UT50, as believe review consensus is that it provides a better overall PQ.
Beyond 12 ft, would be tempted to go for size....

The Pan ST50 would solve your overhead light problem - but at a higher price point.
