Looking for a HTIB that doesnt get too hot

I have the Onkyo HT s3500 and I swear that you could literally fry a freakin egg on top. The price was okay,I paid about 280 bucks for it, but jeez lueez the heat is unbearable. We are exiting winter in a few more weeks and I dont think that this reciever will allow my room to get cool when summer comes along. Is it just my model or do all recievers get that hot?

It really depends on the ambient temperature of the room, how loud you have the volume cranked up, how enclosed of a space the amp is in, for the cabinet you have it located at. Now the other question is, what are you using to measure the temperature of the outer case of the unit?

I have it on for up to 4 hrs a day with minimal vol. I measure heat temps by the burn marks on the forearm. Seriuosly, this setup is not ideal for someone who watches tv for extended periods of time because the AVR has to stay on.

Does not seem right to me. I have the HT-s5500 onkyo that is a 7.1 and a few models up from yours. It has been on a few hrs at a mid to low volumn. Ambient room temp is 69.5 and AVR is very cool and in places cold to e touch. It is on a shelf by itself. 3" on right side, full open on left, 1" over the top of air space.

There is actually a sticker on top that warns you about burning yourself. I am serious. If I was home I would take a picture of it. Anyway, I still have a few days to return it. I don't want to, just because it's kind of a pain, but I think I will look for something else. Any suggestions?

I would consider the HT-s5500. I do see that sticker - a small black label about 5"x1.5" with white letters - but again ours has been on for 5 hours and hardly warm. Sounds good too.

The heat issue seems to have been a problem last year with the 3500 series. I haven't seen that reported on the 5500 so it sounds like they made some changes. FWIW, I have a Yamaha RX-V371 that is on at least 5 hours a day, every day, and it barely gets warm.
