how can the colors on the W9 be so clean like any other LCD?

below is the answer and what Quantum Dots do the the old LEDs lightning.
think of Quantum Dots as a Filter that brings back the natural colors that is missing from the LEDs.

in other words..every LCD TV with white LEDs lacks natural colors.
i think all of you can see it clearly when you compare the W9 to any other LCD

Better lighting with quantum dots. A brilliant solution

or is it false information again LOL?

All you have written above is besides the point. I have seen it in your points before. It's all from QVision's own website. They're Sony's partner. Of course they are going to say that. The statement about OLED even more so. I agree w/your conclusion about Triluminous and w/QVision's for that matter. That said, using company literature to make it does not settle the issue, namely, why are so many reviewers coming away w/a impression that Triluminous has no effect on standard full HD? There has to be something wrong w/sony's marketing. The reviewers' day jobs are to know these things, to thoroughly evaluate these TVs (look at HDPanels site). In many cases they are directly dialed into what Sony is doing . They talk to executives. Your assertion that "no reviewers knows what quantum dots and Color IQ from QDVision is" is, w/all due respect, a bit absurd. Of course they know what it is. That's what they're paid to do.

Why are the reviewers getting it wrong? My guess is that many at Sony have no clue how Triluminous actually works and are misleading reviewers just like that are doing to consumers w/their balkanized, fragmented product lines, some w/attached speakers, some not, some w/deep black panels w/in the same class.

Has anyone seem the W850A ( KDL65W850A ) in person to compare it to the W900A? I know ABT Electronics in Chicago has it on display but I'm in NYC and no one seems to have received it yet.
Just wondering how much difference there is in the picture quality due to the lack of "deep black panel" in the w850a.

I’ve been watching football on my iphone since my tv broke a month ago and getting tired of watching on a 4” screen. Wondering if I should be patient and wait for the w850a or pull the trigger on the w900a

I'm also looking forward to hearing word back about the W850A.

I like everything about the W900A except the size - I want at least a 60" screen because that's what the new set will be replacing. If the W850A has the excellent Sony W-series input lag with comparable PQ, I would gladly drop the 240Hz down to 120Hz to gain the 10" over the W900A.

I'm skeptical though, because if the PQ was comparable, wouldn't Sony just make a 65" W900A? There has to be a bigger reason for "stepping down" from the 900 series to an "800 series" than just 120Hz, right?

I'm getting a refund for a recently purchased 60F7100 and looking at this instead as a replacement, due to issues with panel quality. Details are in the official UNxxF7100 owners thread.

My Mom has the ES7100 - it's a decent TV but for heaven sake the W9 crushes it in all areas. I bough the Sony because I also game a lot and trust me you will be blown away, it's that good.
I written responses to others in this thread just like this one :Dand after they got the TV they are surprised by how good it is. biggrin.gif

I wonder how the W900 would compare to the Sharp Elite 60X5? Black levels the Elite should out perform it but I wonder how color reproduction and off axis viewing would compare to the Elite
or any other major player in the LED world in the last couple of years.

I have a 26 month old HX850. Love the set but the anti reflective coating is peeling off the gorilla glass. Even though the set us out of warranty sony is offering he a new 55W900A for 1,600 plus tax in exchange for the HX850. It this worth it? Is it a good set?
I'm saw this at best buy and wow it looked so good but man I am trying to justify the price since it's only a 55. But I game a lot is imput lag really that noticeable.

Best Buy sells this display for 1999.99 plus tax and online merchants for the same 1999.99 no tax. So Sony is basicly giving you a few hundred dollars off the price of a new one. How far out of warranty are you?

Depends on the gaming you do. If you play FPS or racing games, then yes every millisecond counts. If your playing a game like the new GTA V, then no it doesnt matter that much.

Sony is basically offering you $400 trade-in for the HX850 which doesn't seem like a very good deal. Any chance that the rest of the anti-reflective coating can be removed?

Ok Im getting close to my return date and have a question before I decide to return or not.
My W9500a with Led dynamic control off has either clouding or flashlighting from the lower left hand side to the middle. With LED dynamic control on low, it is less noticable but still kinda noticable on black screens.
Are there some with no clouding with LED dynamic control off

I wonder if Costco will carry the W850 ? Anyone know their criteria to determine what sets they will stock? I would think the 65w850 would be a natural fit between the 60&70 inch R550 line. Give a shout if anyone knows or has info. Thanks.
how do you guys check for backlight bleed / clouding?

Put the end credits of a movie on. If you can see what looks like a faint flashlight coming from the edge to the center of screen that's flashlighting.

Costco.com doesn't offer any Sony TVs.

Called sony again. They won't budge on the price. I have to get to a store and check it out then see what I want to do. It's a crappy offer.

Backlight - 4
Picture - 90
Brightness - 50
Color - 48
Temp - Warm 2
Reality Creation - manual, Resolution 8, Noise Filtering - min
Motionflow - Standard

Reality Creation is for OA HD viewing only. This feature is off for DVD viewing
Everything Else = Off

Advance Settings
Gamma - -2
LED Dynamic Control - Standard

RG - -2
GG - 0
BG - -2
