I have played the same game with Xbox 360 and have had great PQ experience with great colors, low input lag and good black levels (brightness levels up for game mode).

also, did that setting change help your PQ for normal tv/movie viewing?

The picture is certainly brighter than it was before I disabled that. I haven't had a chance to game on it yet tonight. I have not noticed the banding tonight either but I do see a lot of ghosting.

What PQ settings are you using? For normal tv viewing I'm using CNET's PQ settings.

Input lag is good in game mode standard but not so hot in game mode original and terrible in every other setting. I don't know at this point if the PQ sacrifice, ghosting issues, small 55" size, and high price point is worth it for very low input lag.

Does anyone have any experience with the Panasonic S64 series plasmas? I've never owned a plasma before but I'm really sick of LCD ghosting and picture uniformity issues.

Are you testing this with games that only run at 30FPS or use Motionblur? There are ALWAYS going to be some measure of ghosting with 30FPS games (Of which 99% of console games are)

Even more so when they use Motion Blur (Which many do)

hey, I just can't locate the "eco" tab to check with the light sensor.

I went to : Options >>> Picture Adjustments

I also checked everywhere I think

Thanks

Hit the "Home" button on the remote, then go to "Preferences", then "Eco", look for "Light Sensor" and turn that off

Thank you sooo much, the picture now is so much better!

What are the best overall settings you've found so far for the w900a?

The Eco sensor is a great feature to me. Just move the backlight slider to Max and let the Eco sensor do the job. I don't know why everybody here wants to keep it deactivated.

It works like a charme and provide comfortable viewing 24/7. I don't have the chance to have a homecinema room and my living room is full of daylight. The Eco feature makes my live much easier.

I do not have a calibration tool but I must say in a dark room, the combination between backlight = Max and Eco = On seems to be on part with backlight = 3/4 and Eco = Off. My 2 cts.

Hey everyone, just got this set. I'm noticing dark spots on the left and right edges of the picture. I assume this TV is left and right edge lit and I'm seeing the results of it. That said, it was noticeable and distracting in normal content, but I didn't notice it when I looked at a unit in store. I also didn't see it mentioned anywhere in reviews. Did I get a bad set? I'd expect better out of a top-rated TV with an MSRP of $3300 not that long ago.

Did you try to turn off the light sensor? I had the exact same issue and someone here has been kind enough to point this one out. So after I turned it off the picture got so much better

That's disappointing that I'd have to disable the light sensor, but I'll give it a shot - thanks!

Of course, that means finding the option - I can't believe how many settings there are for the set! I'm going to have to read through the manual to figure out what they all do and figure out how to shut off the soap opera effect ASAP.

agree,$3000 for an edge lit that is only 55 inches is insane. Did we ever find out if this is active or passive 3D? Better spent on the full array 55HX950 before they are all gone.

I definitely don't want to make anyone feel bad about this TV if you're happy with it. I guess I'm just a little surprised that so far my 4-5 year old Samsung looks better PQ wise overall. The Samsung is virtually worthless for gaming though which is why I've been on the lookout for a replacement for it.

Well, look at this way. If you're not happy with the set, keep reading and hopefully you'll find something that YOU'RE looking for. I know when I put this kind of money down on a set to play games, watch t.v. & movies, I want exactly what I paid for! Everyone has their own taste(s) about the t.v.'s on the market today, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a more honest forum other than this one, to find all the information about the makes and models that you need. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Good luck....

I should be getting my w900a if I am unhappy can I return it until I am happy with a set? My warranty runs out 2016.... The reason I am so nervous is that I have bought many high end 4000$ sets (6 in total)and had to return them because of clouding, banding defective motion flow..... I stayed with the set  I have now for two years and its problems are becoming more apparent

@vermeer I'm surprised you're running into so many issues with the more expensive sets. Thus far, I'm loving my w900, but perhaps you should consider a plasma if you haven't already done so before. They have their own issues, but uniformity certainly isn't one of them.

Well I am pretty sensitive to banding, its very annoying when playing games....I will shut up now and wait for my 900a, Hopefully it will be ok.. thanks for the advise... my next tv will be a high end plasma

If your spending 3K for this set your getting ripped off. Amazon and its sellers have it for just under 2K and if you value amazon reviews the w900 has 30 reviews 29 5 star one 4 star.

My set was just delivered from Amazon... with a cracked screen. I think I might have to buy from Best Buy instead of waiting another week for Amazon to deliver another one.

IS THIS SET AS GOOD AS MY OLD EX720?? please help someone! Drew sorry to hear about your cracked screen what company shipped your set?

Yes it is better! This is probably the best led set of 2013. Not including the sony 4k tv's.

I am not an owner of this particular set, but I have seen it in action and uniformity seems quite good. Most professional reviews seem to agree about uniformity on this set . Sony seems to have done about the best I believe you can do with edge lit led with the W900a. Go for it , I don't think you'll be disappointed. Buy from somewhere with a good return policy just in case like crutchfield, amazon, or best buy.

If you care about 3D you might have to upgrade. I'm not sure when and what the specifics of the revisions are. But you don't need to buy any expensive, fancy HDMI cables. The five dollar AmazonBasics cable and the "professional" 100 dollar cable will perform exactly the same.

So I turned off the light sensor and even tried turning off every other conceivable option and playing with the settings. As you can see, I have these dark strips from the side that lead me to believe this is a side edge-lit set and mine isn't so great. There's general splotchiness of the image as well (is that what's meant by uniformity issues?). Unfortunately the camera doesn't show it that well, but they're dark patches about a couple inches in height and a few in width, then the image is good, then dark patch, all up and down the left and right sides. It's bad enough that I noticed it in normal content within an hour of having the set, which prompted me to display these slides to check.

Definitely not acceptable in my book. Is this something that all these sets experience, or is this cause to ask Amazon to swap it out? I was really hoping that by picking the top-of-the-line set instead of going with the R550A that I'd be avoiding this type of thing, but I guess not.

This is basically what I'm seeing on my 55w905 as well. I'm also curious whether this is normal or not since in have 20 days left to return mine if not satisfied. To be fair I don't notice it most of the times, most noticeable during gaming when the camera pans a lot (journey, Fifa etc).
