Someone actually let you return 4 sets?
I returned four to Best Buy in about a four-month span. Granted, they were all different models, but still.

Wow! And they didn't hassle you?

I have one but it is down in a corner and rarely noticeable. Since the set is otherwise working excellently, I decided not to do a crap shoot.

I know that when I got my 40Z back in the day, there was some concern about the back covers of some Sonys being too tightly screwed on which might have caused a degree of back-light unevenness that people were seeing. Is the W900 edge lighting on the vertical or horizontal edges? If vertical that might explain what I see on those edges. I tried to crop one of my pictures in the hope that what I'm talking can be better seen. The pic is below. Opinions, guesses?

I have been through 3 of these sets now due to dead pixels, and every one of them had this same issue.  It does not bother me during normal viewing, and I assume it is normal.

Hi I bought a week ago the Sony W900A in 40 inches. The tv is perfect and I love it , it looks great , let's wonderful. But I have a problem. Since I use it mainly to play with the xbox, I 've noticed that funds clear as a white sky, move sideways image , for example, in a game of cars on moving from left to right , is seen in the sky background a spotlight dim half centimeter in length, more or less , just below the frame , located almost in the center of the screen. To say that this foquito only seen in very clear tones and always shifts the image . It's very dim light given off . But seen in certain conditions. If you focus the view on the part of arrbia tv .
Interestingly I have no light leaks in the corners , clouding or even turning off the light in the room , with the black bars at the movies , it looks great .
The feeling is as if one of the LED bulbs that illuminate the tv located on the frame , divest a little more light than otrasy in certain circumstances as a clear light, uniform light colored backgrounds , then this light is appreciated.
Say also that I just appreciate . Since my family does not see anything . It's very faint , but it is .

Someone with this model , you got it? Is this normal?

Thank you very much and best regards!

I just got Amazon to price match to CompSource's price of $1645. Thats about $353 off their regular price - plus you get an additional 6% back in Amazon Rewards and 5% more if you're using a Chase Freedom card. So after all was said and done (percentage rewards knocked off my state tax and about $10 bucks) - got the TV for $1631 shipped.

Pretty awesome deal for what I'm hoping to be an incredible TV. Cant wait to try it out!

Well of course Amazon says that there's a low price guarantee if you buy the TV and find a lower price in less than 14 days. Then I see this 16 days after I buy it, lol.

Maybe it would be from the day it was delivered instead of the day I bought it though? If not, any ideas, guys? Maybe I could return this one and then buy it again at the lower price? I was actually considering swapping out anyways.

I don’t know how Valfrost got so lucky! I purchased this TV about 10 days ago and needless to say when I read this post I got on the phone with Amazon immediate like. I used all the same lines of reasoning to try and get them to price match, including the fact that they are an Amazon Authorized Retailer, BBB accredited, etc… Instead of a friendly yes I got a guy that told me he might lose his job if he price matches the TV for me, which of course was a complete load of BS.

Another thing is that Amazon is supposed to price match including shipping, which would make it about 1810 that they are matching, a far cry from from about 1640!

So Valfrost, much props to you on getting one over on the system, but I’m not sure many other will be able to have your success. If anyone has any ideas, please share!

BTW guys this is my first post but I’ve been coming to this forum for years since its the best source of AV information around. Thanks for all the help over the years :)

Hey everyone, just an update on the Amazon PM to CompSource - I've received about a dozen PM's politely asking for some of my order details so they could try and replicate the PM for themselves. Unfortunately, they've all reported back saying their attempts failed even with my info. It looks like I got incredibly lucky and happened to catch the rep (Theresa) at just the right moment.

Also to clarify on the price I got: The initial PM got the price down to $1645 on my Prime account - add sales tax and CA electronic waste fee's it jumps up to $1798 - then knock off the 9% cashback (6% Amazon rewards, 5% Chase Freedom card) and that knocks off $162, bringing the end total price to $1636 :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to give anyone false hope....was just trying to help out!

So my gf's epic customer service skills got me my price match! Good luck to anyone who might be trying it because they certainly do not seem eager to give them out.

On to more pressing business:

My 55w900a seems to not be displaying colors correctly. What I mean by that is that whenever there is a gradation of color like on the first screen in COD Ghosts or the loading screen on AC4 I can clearly see steps in what is supposed to be a smooth shift of color. I've tried a bunch of settings I've found online (Insanity's, Steve's from avforum, etc...) and nothing seems to fix it. Is this something that's fixable? White balance perhaps? Or should I return this set because even if I could fix it, it still means it was displaying colors incorrectly in the beginning and might have other problems.

Has anyone else experienced this with this TV? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried the Smooth Gradation setting?

Also, maybe its the source thats the problem? Have you tried other sources than PS3/PS4/Xbox? You might need to do a proper setup of your console with the TV.

Tried every setting I could find.. No luck.

My setup runs through an onkyo tx nr809 and I've tried running the ps4 directly to the TV, as well as trying the same game on my xbox one.. Still the same problem. It also occurs on my cable TV source (twc) so I've pretty much eliminated the sources as being the culprit

I believe the problem is the PS4. Currently the system doesn't support Deep Color which would smooth out the banding you are seeing.
PS3 and Xbox One support Deep Color so I'm hoping a future update to the pS4 will resolve it.

Typically, monster products are well built but grossly overpriced as you can get similar quality for a lot less.

You'll also find that salesmen will make up benefits that don't exist because they benefit monetarily from the sale.

Live and learn.

Just get a panamax if you're serious about power protection.  I picked one up for this TV and the PS4.

Holy Cow! You guys were right! Hands down the best LCD picture I've ever seen (those blacks!). I mean, right out of the box it looked great. I went ahead and tested the tv by watching the 2013 Victoria's Secret fashion show (for science of course) and the colors, the motion, the contrast, everything was awesome. On the down side, like everyone else I do have a bit of the shadowing on the left and right edges but it's hardly noticeable unless there's a very light background on. Even then, I have to be looking for it. I've put 5 pictures of the screen here:
http://imgur.com/a/tvYIU#0
I used my phone, so not the highest quality. The first and second pics are of the same screen but with the camera contrast set at different levels. The last 3 are my attempt at capturing the shadows during light background content. All in all, I could not be happier with this TV. It has a manufacture date of Oct 2013.
Tomorrow I'll do some gaming, I cant wait!smile.gif

Got my Sony Ex720 sold tonight and the space cleared for the W900a. I'll be going to Best Buy tomorrow to purchase the Tv.

Unfortunately the problem exists on both PS4 and Xbox one for me.. And then the cable broadcast as well.

I checked a unit out at Best Buy today and it doesn't have the problem.. Neither does my old panny that's now sitting in the bedroom..

I think a replacement is in my future.

I've had my set for about two weeks and didn't notice any banding until a day or so ago. Now I see it everywhere. I don't know if the TV changed or if I just started noticing and became more sensitive to it.

I have not tried smooth gradation. Is it normal to have to?

Also, Amazon gives 30 days to ask for a return, right? Does anyone know if they bring the replacement the same day as taking the old one?

Glad you are happy with your set and thanks for sharing some pics. Would you mind sharing some pictures taken on the screen from an angle from the side as well? Does yours show the vertical splotches that I showed on the previous page?

I have not looked in to updates for this tv at all.

Are they automatic?

Should I try to look for them?

A couple things..

Amazon does bring a new set at the same time as taking the old one, the guy who delivered mine specifically told me that as he didn't want me returning my unit before he had brought me a new one if something ended up going wrong.

As for the smooth gradation setting, it does seem to alleviate the problem a little bit, but not entirely. However it's not feasible for video games as it would almost certainly add some lag since it's a post-processing function. And regardless it doesn't get rid of it completely anyways.

I'm almost certain it has something to do with white balance because I was reading a forum article on 10 pt white balance (even tho this set only has 2 pt) and it mentioned something about how when you have it set correctly you should see a smooth transition between different intensities of color. But to calibrate these properly you need a pro calibration..

after paying almost 2 grand for a TV I feel like it should display colors at least as well as my old TV without paying another few hundred for a pro! Just doesn't seem right..

Also to get the updates just hit the home button, scroll down to settings and then go to product support on the very right. Pretty painless process to download and install the latest update. I've gotten them all and it hasn't helped with my issue.

Anyone know how to do a factory reset on one of these. Calibrator at best buy told me that was one of the only things I could try.

While the TV is on, hold the "up arrow" and press the power button on the side of the set.

I'll try and get some shots from a side angle tomorrow, got slammed with work stuff and haven't had time to return to my new-tv-honeymoon time. I can tell you that I do have splotching show up on my set on a white screen, but I have to be at a super sharp angle, like 75 degrees off center -- basically at an angle I would never sit at. If you're watching tv at those angles, you've got other issues buddy.

I have the exact same thing. It's not that noticeable from the front but I'm checking with sony to see if they could deal with it anyway. They took a look today, took some pics and will go back to confer before getting back to me. Not a deal breaker for me unlike the clouding on my previous samsung.
